Live opera can be an emotionally draining and totally enthralling experience! We just returned fromMadama Butterfly , Pacific Opera Victoria’s final offering this season. Constance knows that this opera is pretty much a reflection of European fascination with the “Far East”, and not an accurate portrayal of real life (after all how many operas are?) but this is certainly one of the saddest stories of all time. The production was marvellous: the singing gorgeous; sets, lighting, and costumes very beautiful; music just divine... our eyes were too blurry to read all the surtitles, and we were insufficiently stocked with hankies last night.
Patience came violet hunting with me in Beacon Hill Park on the way home, and even wore her pretty violet dress underneath her raincoat. The first bunch of purple flowers we found were some little azaleas…
Tansy is interested in Chinese history and way of life, and experienced a little for herself on her trip to Hong Kong last fall. We feel lucky that there is a Chinese Cemetery close by, since it gives us the opportunity to learn so much right here in our own neighbourhood.
Mungo and the Quimper Hitty human had a special outing to Centennial Square in Victoria last Saturday, where crowds of people gathered to celebrate Tartan Day !! Mungo was in his element!
A friend’s flooded studio put a weaving project on hold for a couple of months. Constance and the Quimper Hitty human are both happy that the loom was undamaged, and the friend able to start again. It can be hard to get the momentum back after a setback like that!
