Scrap Happy September Leaves
I fell in love with this fabric and bought it (new)…
.
.
…and made myself a shirt.
.
.
But, from the shirt-making scraps I cut around some of the white leaves…
.
.
…and appliquéd them around the neckline, both front…
.
.
…and back. It’s subtle, but I like it.
.
.
Now for the real scraps… I cut one-inch strips of fabric…
.
.
…and stitched them together…
.
.
…including the leaf fabric.
.
.
The pieced strips were cut into leaf shapes…
.
.
…which I appliquéd onto soft warm flannel, and then hand stitched around…
.
.
…through to the leafy scrappy backing…
.
.
…and into a little scrappy quilt, seven inches square.
.
.
The flannel makes it very cosy…
.
.
…it’s starting to feel like hibernating weather around here!
.
.
ScrapHappy is a group of bloggers (links below) who post monthly about using up scraps! Any genuine scraps are allowed – no new materials. Blog posts are published on the 15th of the month, and it is always a treat to see what ingenious things people are doing with bits and pieces saved from the scrap heaps! Utterly wonderful 😍
Thanks! We have lots of textile fun around here…
My, that leaf fabric looks so comforting now made into your lovely enhanced leaf shirt (so creative to make those leaves into what I’d call a “necklace”). It looks so appropriate on you.
But of course, the little quilt strikes my fancy too. Your creativity continues with taking a wondrous autumn path. That leaf fabric really enhanced your patched leaves in my opinion. May your hibernating weather be full of peace and creativity.
I like the leaf “necklace” too, was inspired by just a couple of the leaves ending up at the neck edge, and thought…maybe a couple more, or a few, hey why not? I liked using up the stripes I had cut the patchwork leaves out of – even the three leftover triangles!!
Love the idea of your applique leaves and the shirt is beautiful!
Thanks so much, I do like the shirt very much too – the print is is so lovely and evocative…
Your shirt is beautiful and the quilt is delightful! And, oh yes, it is definitely autumnal these days! 🙂
The autumn is subtle here – longer nights, heavier dews, fog…and all the fruit!
lovely fabric and the applique leaves are brilliant. The Hittys are such lucky little people, their leafy quilt will be appreciated as the weather cools down – and I love their tiny teddy. Those stripe-y leaves are a great idea.
The nights are definitely cooler, and we are glad to start piling on the quilts – might be time for flannel sheets soon, even!
I love all of this! The fabric is beautiful, the leaf appliqué around the neck is inspired, and the beautiful autumnal Hitty quilt from the scraps is a lovely way to share that leafy fabric with the Hittys!
Thanks! We had to share with the Hittys! I felt that the print wouldn’t register in a Hitty dress, but the quilt back shows it off nicely!
Love the leaf fabric and the white leaf idea! Looking great!
Thank you so much…And the ever-helpful Siyah says hello to the ever-helpful Frans 🙂
I love that fabric too – perfect for autumn and it made a lovely shirt. Your other project is delightful too and will keep little people and their teddies cosy in the future chillier nights.
Thank you! The shirt has had a couple of outings – it is nice and simple and quick to make, just a morning’s work including the extra leaves…and the Hittys (and Teddies) were happy I found a way to share that fabric.
that is so special…and the blouse is lovely!! I am very impressed with how you appliqued those leaves….would never have thought of doing that. Glad the girls got a cozy little quilt to snuggle under.
The shirt is comfortable too! I may be making some more with this pattern!
That applique on your shirt is genius! What a lovely way to personalize it. And I love the colorful leaf scrappy quilt as well.
Thanks! I wanted the leaves to be present around the neck opening, but not glaring…I like the way it turned out, and the little quilt was fun!
