About

I have a number of small wooden dolls, and usually one or another of them is in a pocket or otherwise nearby.  They are good company, and amuse me, sometimes I catch them doing interesting things.  If I do, I’ll post their pictures here…and if you click on the picture it should take you to the blog post I was photographing at the time.

  1. I’ve enjoyed ending my evening visting with the Quimper Hittys…lucky them… all those new rain coats just in time for more rainy days …. thank you for sharing their little wooden lives with all of us who love knowing the busy little lives they live…. Judy Brown

  2. Dear Judy, I am so pleased that you dropped by, and so are all the Hittys. Rose especially wants you to know that this is a friendly household and she likes it here. The other Hittys are glad to share their amusements not to mention their wardrobe, and Rosie is a hard worker who also likes to have fun so she fits right in. Thanks for sending her this way!

  3. I’m not a doll person – but this is interesting – the faces are soulful and the clothes so nice, with the soft colors & rich textures. The last photo here, with its purple tint and strange aura, is really, really wonderful.

  4. I have a Hitty too and love to help her travel but always with me. I am glad you have a real appreciation for these dolls. But why do you call them Quimper Hitty’s? It’s a town in France I am quite fond of.

  5. I always wondered about the name myself, thanks. I love to read the stories and thoroughly enjoy your knack with the camera! It’s my favorite virtual storybook!

    • Thank you – it is a funny way to look at the world, but also fun! Constance was carved in Turkey – I left chips of wood in Adana, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep, Mardin and Diyarbakir, and I finished her in Istanbul!

    • Oh – I am glad! It is so fun to make these blogs, I think the fun of the finished product is only part of why I keep doing this…but it is usually the only thing that other people notice!

  6. I don’t know your name, but I have admired your blog so very much. I take it from the most recent blog that you do your own carving. I am looking to purchase a Hitty with a sweet little smile. You have a couple of them. Do you carve to sell? Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    • Hi Denise, thank you very much, I am glad you enjoy my blog and the Quimper Hittys. I make some of the dolls, but others arrive here by other means (purchase, gift and stow-away!) I am sorry, but I don’t sell them…I hope you can find a smiley girl somewhere!

    • I am not sure how much they are worth but I have been buying them for under ten dollars at charity shops. I do know that Albert Nadeau is not alive any more, so the only ones exactly like this will be old ones.
