Birds, Berries and Buttons
After much perseverance, Constance and I have finished the Embroiderer’s Guild workshop needle roll…
…here she is putting in the last lazy daisy strawberry leaf…
…we stitched and stuffed the pincushion end, attached wool flannel to the inside, searched through the tiny tin to find the perfect tiny button, and worked a little button loop…
.
.
…here it is all completed and rolled up!
and here it is all unrolled. Constance says it is a pity about all the needles and pins, as otherwise it would have made an exquisitely delightful bedroll…

Both beautiful and functional. You can’t beat that!
Thanks! I will enjoy using the little needle roll!
This is the first needle roll I’ve ever seen. Exquisite is the only word I can think of to describe it. Seeing it unfurled, I understand its usefulness and wonder how anyone can go on sewing without one.
I don’t blame Constance for wanting to use this as her pillow. What dreams she would have sleeping on these skillfully embroidered colorful leaves and berries and birds.
Constance dreams of berries even without embroidered pillows. The needle roll looks like a useful object – it is the first one I ever made, but I will enjoy using it!
Constance will probably be asking for a lot of “sewing requests” so she can see the roll open and close!
I think you are right, and it will be a pleasure to indulge her!
well done Constance, beautiful work and useful too.
Thank you very much, it is always nice when something you put effort into comes out so well! Very satisfying!
Your needle roll is gorgeous, so I suspect that it is inspiring all manner of wonderful new things…..Perhaps a wee pillow worked in the same style for Constance? But then, oh my…. all the QH’s might ask for one, and the Twins would want one for Crokkie, too…. and then, there’s all the kitties…. oh oh…. that’s a lot of stitching 🙂
Not that I needed any prompting to sew, but you are right that finishing this project is inspiring! Maybe a Hitty sized sampler?
Oooh… a Hitty Sampler would be delightful! 🙂
lovely!! I am now inspired to make one for myself…altho probably not as exquisite as yours. Such tiny embroidery,,love the blue birds. Constance is correct that it would make a very fetching bed roll, but an
even better needle roll!! Thanks!
I am sure you could make a very pretty needle roll! I think there is lots of potential for pretty small things for the Hitty cupboard too!
