Sunrise!
Early this morning the birds greeted the rising sun…
.
.
…and the block twins climbed up to the roof to see the sunrise…
.
.
…but Luna got in the way!
.
.
The moon partially eclipsed the sun this morning!!! Our location meant that the Sun was 80% obscured.
.
.
The girls knew better than to look at the sun directly – they used a colander to make “pinholes”…
.
.
…it looked like a constellation!
.
.
Luna was very pleased with herself!
.
.
And we are all so glad that it didn’t rain!

oh, good for you and the girls, I missed it. Using the colander is very clever. Is the crow from an Ann Wood pattern?
The Crow is an Ann Wood pattern, I made him last year! I am busy making another one with Young Human at the moment!
The shadow photos are wonderful!
We liked the shadows – sometimes it’s hard to capture them because of the contrast!
It’s great that you got to see the eclipse in your part of the world (through a colander-impressive!). Even though I miss out on most of these celestial events, I’m so glad you keep us informed about them. You’re helping me expand my tent pegs. Becky J
We weren’t at all sure we would get a glimpse because of the dampening weather forecasts! Such a lucky thing that the clouds held back a little!
too overcast here so I enjoyed the partial eclipse vicariously. Thank you!!
You are welcome! We love to notice these events – when we can!
What beautiful shadows and space that colandr makes. Thank you
Isn’t it just the most beautiful effect? And from such a mundane bit of kitchen equipment…we are constantly amazed by the beautiful things that arise from the ordinary!
Absolutely
What a lovely way to tell the story! We had a cloudy day here, but we will be in the band of totality for April’s eclipse. I’m starting to get excited about it. I took a colander out for the last one and saw the shadows on the ground. It’s a neat experience.
Oooh! Let’s hope for a cloudless sky on April 8!
I read that you had an eclipse and the colander is a really clever way to view it. We had one quite a few years ago and it was spooky. I could understand why people used to think they had significance as a message from on high.
Our youngest human is a little envious as we are in the wrong part of the world to see the eclipse.
He looked up the next one here and will be well into middle age when he can see it. Cries of, “I’ll be nearly dead before then!” rang out. But seeing Luna and the Block twins enjoying the event helped avoid too much drama and their very sensible colander use diverted his attention. I
Now, he wants to know whether he could find a Hitty Brother as we Hittys, even the Not Quite ones, are so intelligent and adventurous. We happen to know one is about to painted and dressed, who perhaps might be going with him on a very exciting, surprise trip to Iceland for Young Human’s 8th birthday in February. They may even catch glimpses of elves and the northern lights.
We are now a teeny bit envious of Young Human and wonder if we might find a little elf to adopt…..
Much love,
Roberta and Mary Not Quite Hitty
Oh what a lovely trip! We loved Iceland! My Hittys travelled all over the place when we were there in 2012! And two Little Hittys stayed behind – Frances and Nils. So you never know who you might meet in Iceland – it might be an elf, or it might be a little wooden doll!
