Nigella
Out in the Quimper Hitty garden Malarkey had an excellent excuse to put on her comfortable, practical and beautiful new gardening apron…
.
.
…as she helped harvest the Nigella seed pods.
.
.
The seeds are ready to pop out of the seed pod when the top opens up…
.
.
…Malarkey wielded her new silver trowel…
.
.
…broke open the pods…
.
.
…and scraped out the seeds that didn’t just pop.
.
.
We collected them in our beautiful new black oak wooden bowl, picking out the chaff, and letting the seeds dry for several days.
.
.
We took those garden pictures last week – now we are being inundated by another fall windstorm…
.
.
…it’s a perfect day to make Coriander’s favourite soup (spiced with – coriander of course), and she garnished it up with coconut chutney and Nigella seeds – thanks Malarkey!

A lovely way to spend a fall day.
We enjoyed the soup! And the collecting and preparing of Nigella seeds, Hittys are always such willing helpers!
Beautiful garden story, life story of this little world… Nigella seed, is it Black cumin? I always use them in or with any food, like yogurt, like salad, like paste, etc. It is very healty seed… Thank you dear Hitty Ladies, I loved especially watching rain photograph and sure no need to say, how I fall in love with your dresses and colours… If it would be possible, I would like to live in your world, in this miniature world, there is great love, and brings so much peace and happiness. Blessing and Happiness to you All, Thank you, Love, nia
Thank you nia…I think Nigella (Nigella sativa) is not Black Cumin, but it is sometimes used the same way. We like our little world, it has smaller problems, easier to endure!
You are welcome, and Yes, exactly, Love for you All, nia
Ah, a new spice! It’s wonderful that Marlarkey and Coriander got to experience that adventure together. It’s a nice way to continue the integration process into the QH household.
We think so too! The Hittys have more fun when they work and play together!
Lush. And love the trowel. X
It is a great little trowel – now we have two ❤ ❤ !
lovely to hear that Nigella is a garden girl, clever girl, I love to harvest the seeds too.
We love the way the garden lures us outside, even in the winter!
cool and rainy here and perfect soup weather. I am impressed with Corianders lovely soup. Have never used Nigella in any dish….you are a source of so much inspiration. I am admiring the girls pinafores.
So far we like the way it looks, and it adds a nice little crunch! Yummy! This is our first time growing and harvesting them too, but we may try again next year!
We are having lots of soupo weather too and I am harvesting seeds as well.
November – eh?! Thank goodness for tasty, warm, delicious soups!
What a beautiful creature Malarkey, the photographs are wonderful! That soup looks delicious!
The soup was so good! We have found many variations on the theme of squash, spices, ginger soup, but this one is our new very favourite of all!
She wields her trowel like a horticultual ninja! With those lovely nigella seeds, you can make panch phoran, my favourite Indian spice blend.
That sounds very intriguing! I love Indian spices, I may have to explore this new-to-me flavour mixture!
