Tansy Travels on the Lijiang River
Tansy went to China with a travelling companion who attended a conference in Hong Kong…but the trip included a few delightful side trips, and one of the most memorable was the cruise along the Lijiang River from Guilin to Yangshuo, Guangxi, China.
The distinctive geology along the Lijiang river in China are Karst landforms, made of limestone. These formations span three provinces of China and have been a World Heritage Site since 2007.

Tansy was fascinated by the geology…
…riddled with lumps, bumps, caves and hollows, it is an intriguing landscape.
The views from the riverboat included water buffalo…
.
.
…and ducks! Tansy was particularly happy to see the ducks, which reminded her of one of her favourite books…
.
.
…the Story about Ping by Marjorie Flack, illustrated by Kurt Wiese (who lived in China for several years). Ping the duckling has many adventures on a river in China, including watching a man fishing with cormorants…
…and when they arrived at their destination, Tansy was thrilled to meet such a fisherman…
…she balanced on the pole very briefly and was eyed by the cormorant…
A Day to remember!

My goodness, it is such a treat to follow Tansy the World Traveler! Gorgeous photos- and how amazing that there are still cormorant fishers.
I almost feel like I went along on the trip too!
Tansy is a lucky Hitty. The Li River was one of our most favorite parts of our trip to China!
Tansy is very lucky and very happy…I can see why you enjoyed the Li River – such an interesting landscape!
That is one of our favourite books as well! This is such a wonderful trip that Tansy is on.
Tansy has a great time wherever she goes. We were very impressed that she met a cormorant fisherman, just like int he book!
Pretty amazing! Very impressive indeed.
Very enjoyable…and bringing in The Story of Ping brought it more to life for me. Thanks for sharing your journey with us, Tansy!
Tansy says you are very welcome! We have always loved the Story about Ping!
Wow!! That is amazing. I want to travel with Tansy next time!
Me Too! But I will probably have to content myself with hearing about it and looking at Tansy’s travel pictures!
How fascinating! I did not realize that fishermen made use of birds to fish! Wonder how they train them and what they do?? These journeys of Tansy are such a joy! Thank you for sharing her adventures and her wide eyed wonder..
Ping the Duck lived on a wise-eyed boat – according to that story, the cormorants have a ring put round their necks, and they can only swallow the small fish they catch. The fisherman collects the bigger fish. It is an ancient tradition, practised now mainly for the tourist industry… We are so glad that Tansy’s adventures amuse you as much as they do us!
what a wonderful trip Tansy is having, thank you for sharing.
You are welcome! It is fun to tell about her adventures, and almost makes us feel like we went along too!
I’m glad that Tansy enjoyed her adventure.
Tansy very much enjoyed the scenery, the adventures and the company of her travelling companion! 🙂

The rest of the Hittys experience that thought once in a while too! Just now they are glad to have her back safe and full of stories to tell!
