Polvorones
Six Dalahäster were getting tired of eating rosemary…
Hattie had a suggestion, and handed Amelia an apron…
The recipe calls for a lot of powdered sugar, so Hattie set about pounding some.
Amelia went for the more modern equipment.
Both girls rolled tiny balls of dough…
and popped them into the oven!
When the cookies are baked, they are rolled in powdered sugar – once while hot, and a second time when cool.
These are extremely addictive cookies and it is a good plan to hide them if you want them to last until Christmas!
Hattie did the washing-up…
…and Amelia offered the horses a taste!
Polvorones recipe:
1 cup soft unsalted butter, 1 cup powdered sugar, two cups white flour, one cup ground walnuts (we prefer pecans!).
Mix everything together. For Human-sized cookies, roll into tablespoon-sized balls.
Bake in a slow oven (ca. 325 degrees F) for about 20 – 25 minutes.
Roll in powdered sugar while hot. Cool on wire racks, then roll them in powdered sugar again.
Hide them!
These are also called ‘Mexican Wedding Cakes” but in that case do not seem so Christmassy.

Amelia is really enjoying using the mixer! Cheerful girl!
That Mixer is one of the best Thrift Store finds in the entire cupboard!
WONDERFUL post! What an impressive collection of kitchen tools the Hitties have acquired. They entertain us so much, with such warmth, and feed us treats, encouraging us to make them ourselves. Thank you so much, every day.
Thanks! We all love cooking, though, like cooking with small humans, cooking with Hittys takes longer (and is more fun)!
All of your miniatures with Hattie and Amelia look so life like that it’s hard to remember they aren’t real. Oh My…did I just say that???? Of course, they are honest to goodness true life-forms.
Oh yes – they are real! They have real fun and are a real blessing in, and joyful part of this household!
the Hitty’s have a very well equipped kitchen, what wonderful bakers they are, I’ve copied the recipe for my next baking day.
It certainly has been baking weather out there – eh? I am very glad of the Hittys help and encouragement!
I enjoy escaping my humdrum reality, to slip into the world of your Hittys.
I follow an Italian blog, the fellow makes his characters from eggshells, and they always seem to have an interesting time, also. Luckily, Google translates the Italian (more or less), so I can figure out what’s happening. https://pupazzovi.wordpress.com/
It is nice to have you in our world, we really enjoy the company! Thanks for the link to the eggshell guy – he seems like a real ham-bone!
😊
yes I have made these and can testify that they are quite addictive…pair the with a batch of good fudge and …..sugar overload!! Those Dalahasters would be galloping about the house! Always such fun to see the girls in action!
That would be a sight to see – and I wonder if the sound of Dalahäster hooves clippetty-clopping all night is what has been waking me up lately! Maybe we’d better stick to feeding them rosemary twigs!
Hide them, find them, eat
Dalahäster sweets so neat
Polvorones treats.
Muchas gracias, tack så mycket and thanks so much!
Delightful treats by the sounds of it and how wonderful to make them to give the horses something different to eat…
These are the cookies without which Christmas baking would be incomplete in this cupboard!
