Gooseberry Joy!
A happy day in the Hitty garden – Arianell went out with her punnet…
.
.
…and filled it with Gooseberries!
.
.
She plucked them all…
.
.
…and brought them back to the cupboard!
.
.
Some of us were a little disappointed that the harvest was small from a human point of view…
.
.
…but Arianell encouraged us to admire the beauty of what we have, and hope for better pollination next year!
.
.
She helped pull off the stems and flower remains…
.
.
We boiled the berries and added sugar…
.
.
…and made Gooseberry jam – one jar for the humans and one for the Hittys!
.
.

Arianell and QH human, your efforts look to be sweetly rewarded. Did you enjoy the process of gathering those precious berries too? I agree, it must have been a joy to find them and your gratefulness has been returned to you.
We enjoyed the process very much (even though Gooseberry bushes have Big thorns! And two jars of jam is two more than we got last year! We will be hopeful for next year’s crop!
I used to love my grandpa’s gooseberry patch! Thanks for the memories! Did you make her punnet?
I have fond memories of Gooseberry bushes in the kitchen garden at one of the places I lived when I lived in England…I did make the wee punnet – hoping to make more!
not a great fan of gooseberries but this charming post might change my mind! Love the scenes of Arianell so busy.
We like them in jam…some day we hope to have enough gooseberries to make an actual tart!
