Advent Calendar 2024: 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25

21

On December 21st, Coriander and Vanilla found a beautiful little ceramic dish, paper strips to write wishes on and some matches. The idea is to write 13 wishes on the paper, folding them up and burning one wish in the dish each night between Christmas and 12th night.  That leaves one wish, to unfold on the night of epiphany…the 12 wishes are sent out to the universe, and the 13th wish you attend to yourself. I hadn’t heard of this “Smoky Nights” tradition!

Two pretty crocheted Christmas ornaments appeared on the 22nd…and our little tree is now inside and decorated.  Coriander and Vanilla climbed around looking for the perfect spot to hang them!

23

Home made Pear and Ginger Cordial! It’s such tasty and refreshing drink with fizzy water in summer or hot water in winter – how delightful!

…and  of course, a little stocking full of tantalizing lumps on the 24th!

    • It was a wonderful gift of friendship and love every day in December…I really enjoy this tradition! You could try starting small – just three friends and you for Advent Sundays? Although I think the fact that we make 24/25 little gifts helps keep it all in proportion a bit. anyway. Happy Holidays to you too!

  1. A very belated happy Christmas to you and your family – both human and wooden. I am off to investigate ‘ Smokey Nights’ which sounds a lovely tradition.

      • Thank you. I love the way you find these old traditions and weave them into your life. I think I should copy you! I looked at my tubs of Spring bulbs this morning and they are quite tall. A hopeful sign.
