The Julkärve tradition does look like a very thoughtful expression for the birds. I’ve just finished reading “Forever Christmas” about Tasha Tudor’s Christmas tradtions. She, like you, did not forget the natural world around her either. I think it’s a wonderful tradition to utilize.
I remember my grandmother talking about this tradition, and I liked the thought! In Sweden it is more snowy and cold so the birds might appreciate it more, but we like to put out a little token sheaf.
What a lovely tradition! I never feed the birds other than by letting them have berries etc. from the garden. I have 3 cats, Laura has 2. The previous tenant of the cabin hung bird feeders out and the cats just sat in the bushes underneath waiting for an unwary one.

That is wonderful! The birds will enjoy their holiday meal 🙂
I think they will! We hope so! We love watching all the little bird friends and are happy to think they get a little extra treat from us.
Also, bravo for knowing where to source a sheaf of oats!
There is a Historical Artifacts Society near here that does threshing demonstrations in the fall, we usually try and grab a handful there.

It is nice to be able to watch the birds come to the oats, but the sheaf can also be put out in a field, or in the woods!
The girls look so warmly dressed and colorful. Feeding the birds…we are on our 3rd 50# bag of sunflower seeds here!
You are a true friend to the birds! Coriander and Vanilla were glad it stopped raining for five minutes!
