Quince Jam 2025
Coriander came out to the Quince tree with me…
.
.
…and helped to pick some fruit!
.
.
We scrubbed the quinces…
.
.
…and grated them…
.
.
…and measured out some sugar.
.
.
We washed and dried some jars, and then Coriander took a break while the human stirred the pot and took the temperature of the jam and poured it into jars…
.
.
…but she was more than willing to try the jam while listening to the pinging of the jam jar lids…
.
.
…Quimper Quince Jam tastes great with tea and toast !!

That looks yummy!
It was yummy, and we love how the jam turns from yellow to pink when it is done!
I cannot begin to imagine how many yummy jams, baked goods and other delights are at your home!
I find it very satisfying to make delicious things, and the Hittys are a great help!
I’ve been dehydrating ours into leather, coz I’m lazier than you!
Maybe you have a food processor, but if not, chopping hard quinces is hard work! My life became easier when I discovered the recipe with grated quince!
I have a stick blender, but I peel, then hack the quince into chunks, dropping into acidulated water, then in a pan to bring up to simmer, then covered in the oven for a couple of hours til that fab pink arrives and I know it’s soft. It’s soft enough then to mash with a potato masher, but I blend for ease, and then dehydrated. No need for additional sugar, which makes me v happy, and I try and do this on sunny days when the photovoltaics are generating!
That sounds like a great way to process quince, and less sugar is good too! We don’t have much in the way of photovoltaics at this time of year, alas. But fortunately there are other methods of generating heat!
