Othello Cake

Constance supervises mixing the cake ingredients.

Constance has donned her apron and is helping in the kitchen again.  We have always wanted to try this recipe, and a perfect opportunity is coming up…it is a complicated cake so we are starting today by: Beating three eggs and one cup of sugar in a large bowl. Next,  mixing 1 1/3 cups cake flour, 2 tsp baking powder in a small bowl, and adding it and 1/4 cup milk to the egg mixture. Then stirring in 2 tablespoons melted butter, 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind.  The batter is poured into two 9-inch cake pans and baked for about 12 – 15 minutes at 350 degrees f.

Testing for done-ness with a toothpick.

The cake layers look good!

    This is a cute episode! But I’m wondering if the 14 c milk should be 1/4 cup? That’s the proofreader in me–I just can’t help it. I do love reading your blog!!

    • When the cake was assembled and eaten, we could actually taste this lemony layer, even though there were almond and chocolate layers too. Really an amazing and delicious combination.
