Weaving 5
This is one of my favourite pieces of weaving equipment… a beautiful simple machine consisting of a crank, a worm gear, and a clamp. To fill the bobbin, you stick it onto the shaft, and turn the crank .
The prepared bobbins will be inserted into a boat shuttle like the one resting on the front beam at the top of this picture.

Guess why they are called boat shuttles?

Constance has a pair of Hitty-sized boat shuttles, but alas, no tiny loom.

Oooo! I absolutely love the picture of the doll in the shuttle, she looks right at home!
She likes sitting in the shuttle, but hasn’t yet gone on a slide through the shed. Nice overshot gravatar by the way!
Thanks!
I love those tiny boat shuttles. So perfect for Hitty Constance. May I ask what you are making? The colors are so lovely. It is such fun watching it come together.
The tiny shuttles are earrings made in Sweden…I am making kitchen towels – people use them for drying dishes, and hands, or sometimes as a tabletop decoration.
Constance will try anything – Love the picture of her winding the bobbin.
Constance is very helpful!
I just love the colors in the weaving…they make me happy! I can also see how you love the little machine that winds the bobbins. It looks well taken care of…is it old? Oh, oh, oh and the tiny boat shuttles? They are marvelous. Any plans for a tiny loom for Miss Constance???
We find the colours are very cheering too! This bobbin winder is at least 50 years old, but they are still available, look for “Swedish boat shuttle bobbin winders” on the internet. I have a smaller “tabletop” sized 8-shaft loom that I could dust off…somebody “out there” is making tiny Hitty-sized looms, but Constance is satisfied with helping out on the bigger ones.
The nitty sized boat shuttles are amazing!
Hitty. I can type.
A lot of nits could fit in the teeny boat shuttle though, if they wanted to sail away.
Ha! Unfortunately, nits always seem to be quite content to stay.
As every elementary school teacher can attest.
Absolutely amazing, I’ve never been witness to such a thing before! Fabulous!!
We like to weave – it is very satisfying!
