Strawberry Cake-Making
The Queen of Flowers invited Dulcie, Hattie and Lala to help make cake…the queen chose their aprons, and the girls all helped each other put them on!
They studied the recipe carefully…
.
.
…and watched as the The Queen of Flowers traced circles around three cake pans onto baking parchment.
.
.
The girls helped cut out the papers.
.
.
There were only three eggs, so they borrowed a fourth one from under a hen next door.
.
.
The girls stayed out of the splatter zone as the batter was being beaten…
.
.
…but greatly admired the result!
.
.
Next they chose some beautiful berries…
.
.
…which were chopped – then Hattie added sugar…
.
.
…Dulcie tried whipping the cream – it was hard work!
.
.
Chopped Strawberries mixed with whipped cream for the filling, and plain cream for the outside…
.
.
This cake has to chill a while…
.
.
…but dessert was amazing…and delicious!!!!
They like making cake, and they were glad it was not invisible because it was so beautiful!

The Queen of the Flowers will remember these happy moments with the Quimpers and Grandmother forever. The cake may be eaten, but the memories will endure. 🙂
I hope she will at least remember feelings of warmth, friendliness and creativity in the grandparental household! The Hitty’s favourite photographer worked hard to make the cake with the Queen of Flowers and the Hitty helpers, while the Quimper Hitty human was working hard at the Museum! We all enjoyed the result though, very much indeed!
I am sure that she will cherish these beautiful moments, and feel them as a touchstone all her days.
What a grand legacy you’re building with the Queen.
We have certainly been enjoying ourselves!
Hooray for visible cakes!
…and edible ones!!!
I would love to make this recipe.
It’s not hard!
The Queen appears to be developing the renowned Quimper baking skills!!! That cake does look scrumptious!
We think early introduction to kitchen magic is important…and the cake was absolutely mouth-wateringly amazingly delicious (made by such regal and generous hands!)
so many cooks to make a fabulous cake. Love the fish bone apron, does the Queen have one with crowns?
Her apron has piglets on it, but I may have to find some crown fabric – what an excellent idea!
Flowers need a place to grow. “The Queen of Flowers” of course gets dibs on the most perfect and beautiful garden of her choosing.…that is why she came to blossom and be fed in Quimperville. Speaking of being fed… This strawberry cake is befitting the Queen and her loyal, royal Hitty entourage.
She is a delight to have around – so poetic and sweet! The cake was perfect – she thought so, as did we all.
Today I am appreciating the folks that have commented on this delicious post – a most astute group with clear insights into the Floral Court.
You are all my Hitty friends, and it is truly delightful to have you enter into the spirit of the day!
What fun – That strawberry cake/dessert looks fresh and delicious
It truly was!
