Tie-Up
Constance and the Quimper Hitty human went back to the weaving studio to do another stint of linen-weaving!
.
.
We are changing the Tulip pattern which involves changing the tie-up. First the tie-up cords are unhooked from the pedals.
Next thing to do is to change some of the long tie-up cords to short tie-up cords according to the pattern. Constance is standing on the lower set of tie-up rods, and undoing a long cord from the upper set.
…and here she is carrying the replacement short cords…
After alterations in the tie-up, we wove about four inches including the new tree pattern. This is the reverse side of the weaving, flowers on the left of the picture, and Constance pointing to the trees on the right. We are not totally sure we are doing this the right way, but something interesting seems to be happening…

We are having fun experimenting!

Dear Constance, what wonderful work you do! And how very interesting to learn about weaving…you are one very helpful young lady!
Constance is very helpful, she fetches, carries, encourages consoles and praises – what more does one need in a friend!
what a lot of work, good thing Constance is so helpful working around under the loom. Interesting tie-up system, I’m not familiar with the short and long cords. Weaving looks great, isn’t linen lovely?
I love linen, despite its tangles. The Louet loom is interesting and it is nice to be learning my way around it.
The cloth is looking wonderful! What fun 🙂 And how lovely that Constance is such a fine weaver’s assistant. I hope that she will be rewarded with a linen apron or other treat.
I think there may be an apron in the offing in fact, we’ll see what happens!
As always I am amazed and somewhat baffled by the sheer complexity of weaving. Constance is doing a wonderful job and we are all so curious to see how it progresses.
We are lucky that our weaving friend likes to figure things out, or we might be weaving endless plain things!
Constance is very eager to help, and a good thing too! Weaving extra special patterns seems like such a lot of set-up work. The trees will be beautiful!
Setting-up is always the most work! I think the trees will be nice too – we hope so. Sometimes you just have to believe it, even if it doesn’t look like much in particular while you are getting through the process.
No matter what the weaving ends up looking like, Constance just hangs in there with grace and fortitude. Thanks for sharing these experiences with us.
She is a good companion, and will get her reward!
