Wild Geese
Late Autumn bits and pieces.
Stitches in colourful triangles
The Wild Geese Quilt was very fiddly. I could have wished for more accuracy in the points, but there were 180 little triangles all together, so the amazing thing is that any of them matched at all!
Something told the wild geese
It was time to go,
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, “snow.”
Leaves were green and stirring,
Berries, luster-glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, “frost.”
All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spice,
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice.
Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly,
Summer sun was on their wings,
Winter in their cry.

Oh my goodness, that is amazing! So beautiful and cozy! Tattie and Carrot Soup look so comfy and warm. Perfect.
Snug as bugs in a rug!
You’ve done a marvelous job with the quilt/pieces. This is a very lovely post, thank you.
Thank you! I liked working on this little quilt, though I was a bit rushed, which probably also added to the triangle issue. Luckily Tattie and Carrot Soup don!t care!
Gorgeous quilt! And I have always loved that poem.
I think the poem is very evocative, and I have heard it sung beautifully by a children’s choir.
cute!
Thanks 😀
The quilt is superb! Love the colors!!!! Hope Tattie and Carrot Soup realize how lucky they are!!! Great work for two beautiful woodens! Thank you for sharing the poem also…
I’m glad you liked the quilt and the poem! The background colour of the quilt looks blue on my iPad, but it really is rather purple in colour… Tattie and Carrot Soup like it a lot!
the colours are wonderful, such a beautiful poem as inspiration and you made it so quickly. the girls look very cozy.
Thank you – it was fun to plan and stitch, and the Hittys are always appreciative of anything I make for them!
180 triangles?? Oh my goodness. I know the girls appreciate your hard work. It is a gorgeous quilt!!
yes, I am a bit cross-eyed after all that! The girls are both happy – they are always happy, actually, but now they are happy and warm too!
sheesh…..that quilt is flat out amazing!! Just love it. Of course I am boggled (absolutely BOGGLED) that anyone could sew all those tiny triangles together…. My hat is off to you Quimper human! And I know the girls will enjoy it all winter.
Thank you very much, I think we will all enjoy it – a feast for the eyes, as well as warming our hearts and also the bunks!
Oh My GOSH!
That is beautiful – all of it!
I gave a shiver and a tiny sniffle at the poem… the Hittys rolled their eyes. Who knew they could do that?!
The Hittys are unanimous in their appreciation of the quilt, but divided on the poem…and now that it has been pointed out to her, Gracia is practicing eye-rolling as we speak!
I love your quilts. This one reminds me of origami cranes somehow.
Thank you! There are a lot of triangles in a crane, for sure, but less folding in the quilt, at least until it is put away!
Oh, my! How did you corral all those triangles? One sneeze and…I shudder to think. It is a fetching quilt and so alluring in its colors. That will bring a warm smile on a cold night!
Thankfully there have been no sneezes here lately! Tattie and Carrot Soup are definitely smiling!
What patience – to put such a beautiful quilt together.
Luckily I like fiddly work!
