Tansy Returns to Woodruff Bay

At Anchor, Kerouard Islands in Distance

Tansy was thrilled that the Passing Cloud could stop in Woodruff Bay. It holds one of her favourite beaches (see here for other visits). While it’s the nearest anchorage to Cape St James often the wind and sea conditions make it an unsafe place to anchor, or to disembark.

Off to the Beach

But this year the conditions for landing were perfect so the First Mate took Tansy and guests ashore.

Yay! Ashore Again

Tansy loves the beach but also enjoys the calm inside the gnarly wind blow forest next to the creek, and likes to go for a walk up the creek and over the ridges of ancient sand dunes, now forested.

Climbing trees is always on the agenda …

.

… and taking naps in deep moss, listening to their stolid murmurings is always restful

The view from on top of the sand dunes is spectacular

After scrambling down the front of the dune, Tansy explored along the high tide line where she found cones from a tree ….

… a crab …

… and an eagle feather.

Tansy met with a deer and had an interesting conversation about it’s favourite food, and how come his antlers were twisting like the spruce trees. She found Deer hard to understand, and decided it might be too hard to explain that she had made a harpoon point from an antler just a few days earlier (link), so did not mention it.

After a lazy time on the beach it was time to head back to the ship – Tansy went satisfied with an excellent time on this lonely beach..

Passing Cloud is over on the BC Central Coast at the moment, click here to see where she is right now!

  1. Jimmy Buffett and John Denver sang a song called “Nothing but a breeze” …part of the lyrics were:

“I wish you would take me
    Where the grass is greener
I really couldn’t say where it may be
Somewhere high on a mountain top
down by the deep blue sea”

I often think of this place where you could live high in the mountains and simultaneously down by the sea. Dreamland!
When I view these photos, so often I think of this song and smile because I see that this Utopia does exist.

    • I think you are right, being in Gwaii Haanas is a lot like being on top of the mountains right next to the sea, Tansy never thought of it quite like that before, but it is a very apt description!
