Butternut Girl Update

Jaadaa Snowflake Juuyáay

Thank you so much to Mary Ann Russ, Haawa, for permission to use these photos in this update about how Butternut girl is doing in her new family…

.

.

Life Jacket

Butternut Girl’s full proper name is Jaadaa Snowflake Juuyáay. Jaadaa loves belonging to Raven, who Mary says is so happy and looks after her really good…..

.

.

Ready

Jaadaa means girl, and Juuyáay means sun in the Haida language – I am not sure of the spelling which may be different depending on which dialect is being used.

.

Nice and Safe.

Mary had to make Jaadaa a life jacket because…

.

.

In the boat

…Raven took her fishing!

.

.

Fish Lure

Raven gave Jaadaa lessons – this is called a fish lure…

.

.

Hold the rod

…and this is how to hold the fishing rod.

.

.

First Fish!

Raven and Jaadaa caught a fish!

.

.

Top of the World!

Jaadaa and Raven are on top of the world!!!

.

Thanks again Mary, for the wonderful pictures. I am so happy to see Raven having fun with Jaadaa!

  1. Jaadaa looks like she is surely going to have “Hitty” adventures in her lifetime with Raven. What a marvelous “door” has been opened for Raven with her new little playmate.

  2. these photos are wonderful, heartwarming, thank you to Mary for sending the pictures and keeping us updated with Raven and Jaadaa’s story. Love the life jacket, I brought up two boys on a sailboat at sea so know the importance. I’m sure the two will have many adventures “on top of the world”.

    • They are great photos, aren’t they? It makes me so glad to see the fun they are having together already! Mary said that she fashioned the life jacket from a dixie cup, duct tape and band-aids, but that it was Raven’s idea!

  3. well this just made me day!! The look on her face is priceless. I can not imagine how happy this must make the carve mother of Butternut Girl/ Jaadaa!! Love her new name. Thanks for sharing her joy with us. And that is a big fish!
