Scrap Happy Cooky Dress
Cooky needed clothes!
.
.
Luckily the Quimper Hitty human has a Scissor Lift Operator Licence…
.
.
…and a scrap of hanky from which I had already made two Hitty pinafores.
.
.
I lifted the scissors in the approved manner, and cut a scrap of woven cotton tape to go around Cooky’s middle,
.
.
…and a bit of the scrap hanky for a skirt (including the hem of the hanky which saved me from doing that step).
.
.
Then I pleated the skirt to the waistband…
.
.
…and sewed it all together.
.
.
There!
.
.
To make a yoke I cut a rectangle with a keyhole opening out of a very shreddy corner of the hanky. This was laid onto the worn out middle of the hanky. I sewed the centre back openings and all round the outer edge of the rectangle. The neck circle was left unstitched so I could turn the whole kaboodle right side out.
.
.
I added a bit of pretty of lace to the raw neck edges to neaten them!
.
.
Yoke and skirt were stitched together, buttons and loops added…
.
.
…and Cooky has a simple dress from a scrap!
.
.
I did add a few ribbon rosettes to cover the stitching in front…
.
.
…and a pocket for a cooky!
.

Simple dress from a scrap but so creative and beautiful… Seems very stylish, Thank you, Love, nia (By the way The Cat seems agree too!) Love, nia
If the cat approves, it must be alright! The tiny size was challenging but I like the result. Probably I will make some more and perfect the technique!
It’s beautifully simple, but the killer details are the tiny flowers and the cookie pocket! Cooky seems happy with her new outfit 😊
We thought the flowers were sweet! And the pocket is the last scrap of embroidered appliqué from the original hanky! We tried to use every scrap!
I just love the precision of simplicity yet completeness you utilize in portraying your tutorials. It makes me want to get up and get going on such a beautifully made outfit as you have made from SCRAPS….excellent and thank you so much.
You are very welcome! It was a nice thing to make for my newest doll…and I wanted to make it from a scrap so it would fit the scrap happy parameters! I enjoyed the challenge, and I’m glad you were inspired!
Ooooh she’s utterly enchanting! And her new dress is pure delight 🙂
Thank you, Tottie, I think this wee girlie will give us some fun and delight!
And, in turn, her adventures delight the rest of us!
Thank you!
I was so happy to meet Cooky in person, she is beyond adorable. The dress is perfect but I would argue with “simple” – she is so tiny that cutting and stitching all the tiny pieces was a challenge. And what will she find to put in that wee pocket?
It is true that smaller doesn’t mean easier! But the dress pattern is pretty straightforward, I may need to make it a few more times to be happy with it completely. I think she will pit a hankie in her pocket, or maybe a dolly when it isn’t being occupied by a cooky!
Oh, my. She looks gorgeous and elegant in her new dress. I always like seeing how you do these tiny things.
Thanks! It was a challenge… I will make her more clothes now that I know what fits her and how to make it work on such a wee tiny doll!
