Scrap Happy Corset

Scraps

Youngest Human and I made dolls on New Year’s Eve (I posted about it in the January Scrap Happy blog –  Click here for a link to that scrappy post).  It took a while to get the next layer of clothing made for my doll, Eve…

Inside Out

…but every young lady of her era needs a corset!

.

.

Linen

I used linen (scraps from a worn out shirt of mine) for the lining..

.

.

Brocade

…and brocade for the outer surface. If this fabric looks familiar, it is because I used some of it to make 18th Century pockets and a pair of  shoes for a special doll…(Click here for a link to Lady Frances’s complete toilette)

.

.

Lace

…Eve got laced into her corset…

.

.

Silk

…using silk ribbon through hand worked grommets (only eight of them this time – she is a much smaller doll than Lady Frances!).

.

.

Pretty

She is a happy doll, ready for the next layer of clothing, which I hope will not be as long in coming!

Eve is a Jenny Barnett doll, Click here for Jenny’s website.

ScrapHappy is a group of bloggers (links below) who post monthly about using up scraps! Any genuine scraps are allowed – no new materials. Blog posts are published on the 15th of the month, and it is always a treat to see what ingenious things people are doing with bits and pieces saved from the scrap heaps! If you think you’d like to join the group, contact Kate or Gun who devised and run it – their blogs are the first two links below:

      • Dw i’n da iawn diolch. Anglesey is the other end of Wales but she could be a relation. I am very happy to have her as an honorary cousin!

  1. Reading your blog postings, especially those in this vein, I ALWAYS feel like I’m stepping back in time, watching that specially experienced and gifted craftswoman, sitting on her stool, chair or bench, plying her tools of trade. Unlike those of old, we have a special seat alongside to watch from afar. It’s heavenly to me…thank you. I look forward to seeing more of Eve’s upcoming wardrobe.

  2. I do love her growing wardrobe. That chemise is particularly fine, and the brocade for the corset is lovely. I’m not sure what her era is, so I wasn’t sure whether she was stays or a corset, or even a pair of bodies, but whatever the timeline, she’s now secure in her ladylike posture!

    • I am not sure what her era is either – I think her hair is 1830/1840-ish, but she seems to be drawing me backwards to the 18th century again…we shall see. I am sort of making it up as I go along! Eve is just glad to be getting some more modest attire!

  3. Dear Hitty Lady, how beautiful, I fall in love with your art/handwork/images whateveer you say. This is so beautiful, I wanted to put a small pink and white flowers on her head… Thank you, have a nice day, Love, nia

  4. Thank you so much. I love to dress the dolls, and Eve is the lucky one at the moment. The corset fabric was so beautiful but I only had a tiny amount! Luckily she is a tiny doll!

  5. whatever Eve’s era she is beautiful and the corset is lovely. Can’t imagine stitching those tiny grommets. Only you would think of making a corset for a 7 inch doll, can’t wait to see what comes next.

  6. what a gorgeous corset..I love how you centered the brocade design on the front. And of course your gromets are works of art!! Eve is such an elegant lady…a person of distinction of course!! Deserving of only the best of ensembles.

    • Eve has been a pleasure from the very beginning – and every new bit of clothing is so much fun for me….I am very lucky to have a big stash so it is easy for me to sew pretty little clothes for my little dolls.
