Autumn Moon 2012
Tonight is the Autumn Moon, and the Quimper Hittys have acquired a piece of Moon Cake. Normally Chang’e the Moon Goddess is invited to bless the moon cake. Our Guanyin figure declines to get involved, even as a stand-in, as she/he does not want to step on anyone’s toes. We all wish everyone a happy Autumn Moon.

The cold shoulder of a goddess! Good thing Constance views her/him as just another wood doll. Since she knows who her goddess and creator is, and travels in her pocket frequently, she seems pretty confident when it comes to dealing with deities.
Probably she was thinking ‘very well, all the more for me’.
Constance indeed tried to make her new goddess friend feel at home, though she/he has a heavy burden , being the one listening to the woes of the world.
If I didn’t learn something new from every Quimper posting, I would be disappointed! I’m guessing the Autumn Moon is the first full moon of the new season?
It is the full moon nearest the Autumnal equinox, when tea is drunk, moon-cakes eaten and incense burned to the deity Chang’e – the Moon Goddess, who accidentally ate some immortality pills made by the rabbit in the moon.
We were just enjoying this moon ourselves the other night and talking about it’s meaning and it being the harbinger of seasonal change. What a delightful post here today!!
Thanks, Toad. We were lucky with the weather. On some Autumn Moon festivals the moon is hidden in clouds.
