Mary Ann has been looking for a particular flower…this lovely Scilla is a delicate blue, but she has her heart set on  purple.

We called this a weed until last week when we learned it’s name.

At last, Mary Ann’s favourite little flower.

Mary Ann is named after a distant relative who worked a sampler in 1828 at a Quaker School in Ireland. Click here for a link to the Quimper Hitty post showing the sampler, whose motto begins “As some fair violet, loveliest of the glade, Sheds its mild fragrance on the lonely shade…”

  1. I’m with Mary Ann…violets are my favorites too….in another 3-4 weeks we should be seeing them here too! Thanks for the beauty of the colors the Quimpers are savouring.

  2. what a lovely way to get a name…from a treasured heirloom sampler. I have enjoyed visiting the flowers with the delightful Mary Ann. Someday spring will come to MO and perhaps my girls can enjoy some blooms. thank you for a lovely spring stroll.
