Dulcie
When a new doll is being carved the Quimper Hittys are filled with hopefulness because they think there is a “sweetie pie” in the blank somewhere, but they are also anxious in case I can’t get her out of the wood…Fortunately for the carvers our workshop teacher Judy Brown does a lot of preparation, has a lot of experience and provides a lot of materials. Just as importantly, her patient and encouraging style of teaching meant that all the carvers at the workshop started with a beautifully prepared doll blank, and ended with a beautiful doll…
.
My doll blank had a Bass wood head/torso (for ease of carving), and maple arms and legs (for strength in the joints). She seemed to have a little protruding tummy, so I decided to carve her into a toddler-aged doll, with a plumpish face and rounded arms and legs…and bare feet!

She is absolutely darling!
Thank you! and thanks to Judy Brown for helping me find her in the wood!
Very sweet! Great job. I was fortunate enough to have Judy B as a teacher (first and only time of carving for me)…isn’t she great?
Judy is a wonderful teacher – very calm and kind, and very prepared and knowledgeable.
Wonderful! Dulcie is adorable and, after her fostering in the cupboard, will make a wonderful treasure for a little girl. Perfection!
Thanks, Ryan, we’ll take good care of her until she is ready to move on!
Dulcie is great! You have made a real sweetie. She is quite a bit younger than the other Hittys, I expect they are going to have fun teaching her the ways of the world.
She is younger I think, and all of the Quimper Hittys will have fun with her…
Dulcie is a sweetheart, and your granddaughter will be too! Love her little toes!
The toes were fun! I thought I had lost one in the carving, but Judy saved the day (and the digit).
She’s a cutie pie!
We think so, Dulcie is endearing herself to all the Quimper Hittys. Constance was happy to find the Dolly Dingle Paper Doll story in the welcome packet, you can see she is enjoying looking after a young one.
Kjerstin – she is adorable and you did a wonderful job carving her! I am jealous at how great the face looked pre-paint. Love the pot belly, too – makes her a little more human. You did a great job!!! laura
Thank you! I was so happy to have such an encouraging teacher…Dulcie’s whole personality was because of the little pot belly.
I just have to echo what everyone else has said…she is just a doll!! I love the face and the little plump torso and those bare toes!! very very sweet. I am so happy you had such a good experience at the class!
Thank you 🙂 Dulcie is going to ask for socks though once she realizes how damp and cold it is here in winter. I’ll have to get Rose to knit her up some socks!
Welcome Dulcie!
Thanks! We’ll try and teach her good habits before she moves on to her new home.
Dulcie is beautiful. is she basswood? What an amazing experience to have Judy as a teacher.
She has basswood head and body, and maple arms and legs…I think she will be a cute and sturdy Hitty friend.
She is a real beauty!!
Thank you! We love her, she seems to be sweet tempered as well as cute!
