Pear and Hazelnut Pie
This is the time of year for special desserts in this household…We like to make a variation of Roz Denny’s Pear and Hazelnut Pie, which is easy and delicious…
Gracia admires the bowl of Hazelnuts…

The pie is easy, but time consuming. Since we can’t buy ground Hazelnuts around here,we have to prepare our own…which probably results in a fresher, more delicious pie anyway…

This ratchetting nutcracker (made in England) is loads of fun to use, very effective and does not hurt your hands (even if they are very tiny).
.
.
Nut-extracting generates a lot of mess. Fortunately, Gracia has her apron on and enjoys sweeping!

Gracia’s other favourite kitchen utensil is the Danish MEM grinder, made of very sturdy cast aluminium with left or right hand crank options, and stainless steel teeth.
We end up with one cup measure of ground Hazelnuts, The rest of the pie will happen tomorrow!

Gracia’s tools are fantastic for the job. We have hazelnuts here to finish shelling but with less sophisticated items. The Quimpers are once again, inspirational and educational. I will look forward to seeing how this all gets put together.
The Human household has slowly collected interesting and kitchen implements – usually at the second-hand store! We are going out to dinner tonight, so have to get the rest of the pie made today!
Gracia is going all out for this one – what a lot of work. I would be happy to help with the eating part!!
Gracia says “Claro que podés comer la tarta de pera y avellana”
Google translates that to say I can have the commercial pie. But it suggests that she has written it incorrectly and perhaps meant “Claro que puedes comer la tarta de pera y avellana”. I will take it that a typo is involved, and not an instruction to keep my mitts off and go to the store if I want to eat! 🙂
If you were a REAL Argentinian, you would understand perfectly.
This shows that google is not Argentinian either. And Gracia is very generous, so I should assume the best!
Gracia is lovely even hard at work. Is her apron a vintage linen creation? I love the knotted trim on her frock.
And am quite interested in this pastry creation. Have never cooked/baked with hazelnuts.
She is a hard worker! She insists on that apron though it isn’t actually terribly practical. It is a machine-woven ribbon – I think Rayon but I haven’t tested it!
