Two Hundred Years
Two Hundred Years ago today (or possibly some time in in July) Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park was published…It was definitely some time in 1814, but the dates are unclear to me! Wikipedia says both on the same page, so obviously need to dig deeper. In any case, Rose is pleased to have an excuse to wear one of the Quimper Hittys’ Regency Outfits. Her dress was made by one Hitty friend, and the pretty crochet bonnet, and matching reticule by another.
The 30 year old paperback was purchased by the Quimper Hitty’s Human in 1984 in Nashville Tennessee. The yellowed pages are well thumbed – reading Jane Austen is a favourite pastime in this household!

A very lovely pastime to have as well. Lovely way to celebrate 200 years of Jane Austen.
Reading Jane Austen and drinking tea is my idea of a perfect afternoon!
This is such a beautiful way to remember that well loved, well read book in your cupboard.
I love all the Jane Austen novels – Persuasion might be my favourite, but we’ll have to wait three more years to celebrate it’s publication.
beautiful bonnet and a lovely tea set.
I really can’t crochet, or have never persisted in learning how – but if I could, they’d all have pretty bonnets in different colours! A Hitty friend gave us the tea set last Christmas!
Rose is such a lovely Miss. Her accessories are perfect. That tea set is rather special. Ahhh Jane Austen is
favorite with the Country Hittys and their human. As always your photos are stunning!!
And the beautiful and well-beloved dress is perfect too! Rose says she likes the way the colour matches the bluebells from the garden….
Rose looks beautiful besides the Jane Austin book, with her tea set, pretty dress ensemble and lavender/blue flowers.
Thank you! Rose loves reading, and the pretty ensemble makes her feel like she really is back in regency times!
I have the same edition 🙂 And, it too, is well thumbed and well loved- as are all my Jane Austen books. I still have my first Austen purchase, that I bought when I was 11 years old from the Scholastic book club at school. I’ve been hooked on Jane Austen ever since! Jane Austen would be delighted, I am sure, by Rose’s tribute to her.
It is always a treat to read and re-read a Jane Austen book – always some new nuance or an old companionable feeling to find in one of her novels!
