Tiny Selbu Mitten Knitting
The Quimper Hitty human has been wanting to try the Tiny Selbu Mitten pattern, which is a free download from Ravelry, thanks to MirreVirre from Trondheim, Norway. Rose was keen to help…
…and of course the Quimper Hitty cats are always willing to get involved when there is string to be played with!!

After getting lost in the chart, we ripped out the first ten rows, and started again. The first finished mitten has the decreases at the left of the chart knitted through the back loops, which ended up looking wrong in the finished mitten. In the second mitten we knitted the decreases through the front loops and it looks pretty good. I don’t know if this is because I read the chart wrongly or if it is an artifact of my knitting with the yarn in the left hand. Rose likes the finished mittens, but wants to try and make a pair that is a tiny bit tinier so they fit Hitty hands…
but the cat thinks they are perfect.

Wow! So tiny! Lovely work … let us know how the Hitty size works out!
Rose and I like to knit…she is more patient than I am!
The cats are right!!! They are perfectly lovely.
They are the Perfect size for a Quimper Hitty cat to sit upon!
Nothing is more important than keeping the cates, small and big, happy. The Hittys are bound to understand this, even if they would like mitts that fit.
They are sublime! If the yarn is feltable, you might be able to shrink them…
I wonder if the front and back would stick together if I tried that? In any case, the red is pure wool but the white is wool/silk/bamboo so I think it would shrink deferentially…I think I will look for thinner yarn and smaller needles.
wow! You and Rose are very talented knitters!
We do amuse ourselves, that’s the main thing. Rose is very encouraging, as is the knitting genius of the family. Otherwise I might just end up with lots of piles of yarn scraps and no finished knitting projects!
The mittens are VERY cute, but I can’t even imagine making them small enough to fit Hittys. Yikes!!
I know, I might be completely mad, maybe I should just leave that project in Rose’s capable hands and see what transpires…
You did two things that scare me – tiny knitting with a chart! Congratulations on completing them!
It can be disheartening when things go wrong, but don’t forget we had to knit three of them before ending up with one we were satisfied with!
Mittens for Kittens!! You could start a new craze!! Rose is looking as lovely as ever and I am flat out amazed at those very little mittens. The Quimper Human is rather extraordinary!!
We do have three little kittens, but so far only one pair of mittens! I will get going on another pair and see if I can make another pair this weekend.
GORGEOUS!
Thank you!
oh my, any smaller and we might start to wonder about your sanity. they are adorable. kitty could use one for a sleeping bag.
Any smaller and the human might need stronger spectacles! I did have to extract the kitty from the mitten for the photograph – a lump inside a mitten is not very photogenic!
Charming! Love the snowflake pattern. 😉
Thank you! I should perhaps send them to the southern hemisphere, where Hittys and humans will be preparing for winter!
