Invertebrates of Dolomite Narrows
The passengers on the schooner Passing Cloud were treated to a close-up view of some of the invertebrates of Dolomite Narrows (click here for a map of the location). First Mate Liam went snorkeling, and brought up specimens, which were put into a bucket on the zodiac.
Tansy got up close to a purple slimy Sea Cumber…
…was interested to see a Purple-hinged Scallop that might have been 75 years old, the blue and the orange Bat Stars, and a Moon Snail.
She was amazed by spectacular Moon Snail Egg Mass, and found the variation in the shapes and colours of sea stars fascinating.
Once back in the Hitty cupboard, Tansy was keen to tell her sisters about the delightfully interesting Sea Stars. She studied the field guide so she could point out the ones she recognised.
She doesn’t remember seeing Cookie stars, or Arctic Cookie Stars…
…but she she felt it was important to encourage a love of wildlife, and did her best to provide a true-life Sea Star cooky experience for her eager audience.
Opal and Agathe were very appreciative, though Tansy had the feeling she was “preaching to the already converted”.

Wow! Cool stuff~
It was all very cool! The Moon Snail egg masses were extremely architectural looking, in a leathery sort of way, and the sea stars curiously varied.
We have a feeling of being there too!!! Thank yoou sooooooo much for sharing Tansy!!! We learned a lot, once again. Hugs and love.
We always love it when Tansy goes off on a visit to places – she is always willing to share her adventures with us, I am glad you enjoy reading about them!!
Cool!
Thank you – we thought so as well!
Beautiful place. Is it in Alaska or British Columbia? Where do you live from the reserve?
The Passing Cloud was sailing around the southern archipelago of Haida Gwaii in British Columbia.
So neat! Thank you!
You are very welcome!
These stories are intriguing. Seriously, absorbing. I had no idea how many kinds and colors of sea stars there are/were. Sort of puts me in mind of the cosmos…endless. I relish viewing, learning and even hearing about these adventures on the Passing Cloud. Thank you so much for sharing these with us. Just wondering how Grannie is handling not being a mate on the schooner??????
Those adorable sea star cookies are amazing. They look scrumptious. What a great way to celebrate Tansy and their favorite photographer’s return home.
We are always happy to share the things that fascinate us…if you haven’t come across it already, we recommend looking at one of Tansy’s previous stellar encounters for more details about sea stars. To do so, click here:
Gráinne is a little miffed, but doesn’t stay mad for long!
Tansy has the BEST adventures! Love her jeans and flannel shirt. how clever to illustrate her lessons to the girls with those wonderful cookies.
We love cookies! We love it when Tansy uses cookies as educational tools! I made her shirt from a plaid hanky, but the jeans are borrowed from another doll.
