Tansy In LA
Tansy has just returned from an adventure in Los Angeles. She and her favourite photographer went to a class at the Los Angeles Center of Photography, given by Sam Abell (click here for his website).
That weekend, the city experienced its biggest storm in many years. Tansy got rather damp – having expected to go to the land of winter sunshine she did not pack a raincoat.
However there were moments when it was worth getting wet…
– some amazing creative installations to look at…
…with curious people to converse with…
…and places to shelter in when the rain threatened to wash everyone away.
She sat in a bird of paradise plant…
…fortified herself with local food…
…and made friends with a gecko called Rolo.
At the crack of dawn the photography class went to the Santa Monica Pier to take pictures…
…where Tansy was very impressed with the huge surf!
Upon her return she bought an enormous bag of Duty-Free chocolate for her sisters…
…who were all amazed and excited that that she found Hitty-sized Toblerones!
Tansy was grateful to be invited along on the trip. She paid attention in the photography class, learning about things like Microcomposing and framing, and using her old Lubitel 166+ Twin Lens Reflex camera, she got this great shot as a memento.
Thanks, Favourite Photographer, for taking Tansy along!

Wonderful photos, Favorite Photographer! It’s always a treat to follow Tansy’s adventures with her Travel Friend!
Yes, Tansy often gets itchy feet in the winter…but this trip she got wet feet!
That is a perfect shot!
Tansy (and her favourite photographer) thank you!
I am amazed that “favorite photographer” could improve on what I have viewed as perfection already. The shots of the ocean are wonderful. My mother’s sister lives in Los Angeles ( my favorite Aunt) and the rain has been torrential and worrisome, I am glad that my Aunt and “favorite photographer” are both safe and sound.
We get a lot of rain in winter her, but not all at once like they did in LA last weekend! That was definitely a worrisome amount of rain – the Quimper Hittys and their human were glad when both the photographers came home safely!
Loved this episode! Also all the amazing photography! Thanks for the link to Sam Abell’s work.
Such interesting lives you lead!
Ann
It seems to have been a wonderful weekend! Sam Abell’s work is strikingly elusively wonderful! The photographers got a lot out of their workshop!
What an adventure…and what great photos. Tansy is such a world traveler.. I really enjoyed the photo of Tansy conversing with the odd little head embedded in the wall.
They both had fun! Tansy found the funny man in the wall very amusing, but really wanted to smuggle the gecko home for a pet a la block twins!
