Horn Book
A friend gave me a tiny wooden paddle-shape…so I HAD to make a hornbook!
I cut some copper sheeting with scissors…
.
.
…and put double-sided tape along the edges…
.
.
I cut a rectangle of cow horn and stuck it to the tape.
.
.
I wrote a tiny alphabet, erased the pencil guidelines, then attached it to the copper and cow horn frame…
.
.
…and then stuck the whole sandwich to the wooden paddle. I think it works, though tiny rivets would have been nice instead of all that double-sided tape.
.
.
Nevertheless Zipporah is happy with it…
.
.
and ready to teach the ABC’s to the teeny tiny wooden girls!

O my gosh! Zipporahs outfit is so wonderful. She is just gorgeous.

Thanks very much! I carved her with an 1840’s hairstyle so she has a very old-fashioned outfit, (and stays underneath!)
I love the hornbook. I hope the wee ones get their letters quickly.
I think Zipporah will be very encouraging, and they will learn fast!
Wow… on everything in this post…. wow………
I have fun catering to the Hitty’s requests, and my imagination!
Love it!
Thanks! I am pleased with the result…it was pretty fiddly!
You’re pretty amazing in what you come up with…always an honor to read your postings.
I have been hankering to make a hornbook for ages – I am just happy all the pieces came together!
Zipporah is such a lovely miss. The hornbook is amazing!! Who else would have sheets of horn lying about the house!!! You are a wonder.
Well, thanks very much! It was fun assembling the bits and pieces…and when I fell into the mood, I had all the stuff there ready to go!
