Knitting Hempathy 2

Casting

At long last the Hempathy Shirt was ready to come off the needles…

…and then all that was left…

Helper

…was to darn in the yarn ends (of which there are several).

Fortunately Floradora is a willing helper and the job got done pretty quickly…

done!

…actually there is one more step – it needs to be blocked out, but then it will be wearable. I have already tried it on and I know it fits – hooray! And best of all from Floradora’s point of view is that there are scraps! I had better get knitting and see if I can whip up a little sweater for Floradora in time for Scrap Happy day on the 15th?!

Click here for the pattern, but note there may be a mistake in the pattern which I have alerted the designer about, and adjusted in my knitting. I also did not include a 20 cm ease, and lengthened the body and sleeves by two inches in each case, to accommodate my longer torso and arms.  Luckily I accounted for those adjustments when I chose the pattern size and bought an extra ball of yarn, which I did use about half of!

  1. Is it soft and supple, or firm? I think it must be, if you’re going to wear it, but I always envisage hemp yarn as being rather like hemp rope in texture, a bit coarse and prickly! It’s difficult to get an idea of the ‘hand’ from the photos.

    • It is quite soft and drapey, the yarn is 41% cotton, 34% hemp and 25% modal (nylon). If you click on the pattern link you will see a model wearing the tshirt drapily. The yarn on that model is about the same mixture of cotton and nylon, but with linen rather than hemp.

  2. Beautiful knitting… I loved too. And you know, your photographs are so beautiful too. You create an art in art, Thank you, Love, nia
