More Tapestries
What a great course! Mrs Asp brought in several examples of weavings she made in past years…and look! A tapestry from the very same pattern that my Great Aunt made!
We are slowly slowly moving up the warp following the cartoon as best we can and getting help and advice as needed…
…and coffee breaks as needed…
…and continuing to weave a little at a time.
It is slow and careful work!
Look at the glorious cushions we get to sit our sit-upons on!
And the basket of colours to choose from!
Arianell and Coriander are a great help! They wanted the parrot tapestry kit for our next weaving attempt, which won’t be until we get home!

It looks like it takes a lot of focus. How lucky to have such beautiful surroundings to broaden out from that concentrated attention. Are the designs you’re using traditional?
The sampler we are weaving in the class is for us to learn some of the basic techniques…the kits we all got as part of the course will put the techniques into practice, and the kits are all traditional patterns extracted from old tapestries. It still amazes me that my great aunt wove these exact same designs, and that I am learning the methods in the same Handicraft centre where she must have bought her kits 70 years ago!
What a lovely experience and those cushions you get to sit on are beautiful. The coffee break looked tasty!
Those cushions! Sitting on works of art! It was great actually, and a reminder that the tapestries had a function besides being beautiful! And the coffee treats were endless and delicious!

I found this fulfilling in so many ways, meeting the master craftswoman in the place where this tradition has centuries of practice, and where the handicrafts association has been promoting and teaching for over a hundred years. And being with people who want to learn and have similar interests is so great. I hope you find something similar and find yourself inspired!
how fun that she brought in a tapestry like the one your Grandmother had woven. I think the parot kit will be a big hit with your resident pirate. Looks like you are having a grand time. so happy for you.
You are right about the parrot! I hope to start on it as soon as I get home! Always assuming the tapestry frame makes it home before I do!
I can imagine that your eyes are very tired after spending a day on such close work. A walk in the fresh air with dappled shade must be bliss in the evenings. It looks a lovely venue with good teaching and a lovely craft.
The workshop has been wonderful, but yes, the evening walks were so pleasant after the intensity of the classes. The whole workshop experience was absolutely wonderful. I am so glad that I was able to come.
And I am glad that after all that effort to get there it lived up to expectations. Well done for siezing the opportunity.
