A New Peg
The Hittys heard a tentative-sounding knock at the door…
.
.
…and Jane went to investigate. She found a lady leaning against the doorpost with an anxious expression and a dreadful sick-headache.
.
.
Jane was pretty sure that a restorative cup of tea would help ease the headache, and James James suggested loosening her hat ribbons.
.
.
The lady’s hat was nailed to her head!
.
.
Just because a doll is made of wood doesn’t mean her clothes should be nailed on!
.
.
Jane was an only Penny Wooden for ages and ages…two new siblings this year is quite a surprise!

Does the lady remember her name, now that the nails out of her head? How painful that must have been!
What a relief to have the nail removed, not to mention a ready-made family of familiar-looking pegs to keep her company! We have been calling her Margaret, and though she hasn’t agreed that it is her name, she hasn’t objected either.
So lucky she came to the Hitty’s and who thankfully discovered the cause of her pain. Now she is in good company. Do you know who left her? is she going to stay? does she have a name? Her dress is very pretty, the fabric almost looks handwoven.
She was languishing among the tea cups at the Good Things consignment store on Oak Bay avenue…I don’t know who left her there! I like the pink gingham too – it’s so sweet and a perfect dollhouse scale. We are glad that she appears to have been dressed in the sixties or earlier, using nice quality fabrics possibly from earlier than that…if it had been much later the costumier might have been tempted to use hot-melt glue – the bane of my conservation existence!
It is no wonder her head ached! I am sure she will fit in very well with the other Hittys and maybe her amnesia about her name will pass – if not she will have to have a new one.
We are calling her Margaret, or peg. She may remember a more fitting name, but until then, we think it suits her.
very appropriate! I had an aunty called Margaret but she was always known as Peggy and I was a teenager before I realised it wasn’t her ‘proper’ name.
We thought Margaret/Peggy worked for this doll!
how perfectly dreadful for the new lady…i am so glad she has Jane and James James to look after her. I believe her troubles are over now that she has found her way to the Quimper Cupboard!
Jane and James James feel a certain affinity for the poor lost soul. She will be well looked after! Hopefully she will find some satisfaction in her new family!
the nail was probably easier to remove than to hot glue. I was at Good Things on Tues. – there was a large, old teddy there, not a well known maker and he was $150. I felt bad leaving him but hopefully someone else will take him home
We thought the nail was appalling, but yes – easily removed thank goodness.
This is how headaches – happen, ha! Hats nailed to heads!
Thanks for the smile 🙂
Yowch! Some headaches do feel like that – eh?
Poor girl. I know they say one must suffer to be beautiful, but no hat is worth that amount of pain! I hope she’s feeling much restored in the Hittys’ congenial company. If she needs her hat on much of the time, then a tiny dot of black Velcro (fluffy side on her head) would be so much more comfortable and would give her the option of alternative headwear.
She likes the idea of fluffy velcro much better than that nail! But I think I may just put the hat in a safe place and let her go without, at least indoors!
😱
The new lady was very relieved to have the source of her headache removed!!!
