International Children’s Book Day 2016
Today is the 211th anniversary of the Birth of Hans Christian Anderson…in his honour April 2nd was declared International Children’s Book Day – Click here for a great website about this special day…
We have quite a few Hitty-sized books, but Gilly wanted the biggest one in the bookshelf!
Rose is happy to read it to her…

…almost all the little wooden people in the Hitty cupboard know this one by heart!
Happy International Children’s Book day 2016!

What a great choice Gilly has made!
We think so too!
I knew about this day, but didn’t realized it was based on Hans Christian Andersen. Being Danish, he has a special place in my heart.
We love this day! I ordered two books for my granddaughter in honour of the day, but they didn’t arrive in time 😢 did you notice the lovely quilt Rose and Gilly were sitting on?
I hadn’t, but so nice it is being enjoyed. My first quilt book was called “you can sit on my quilt” and that is the philosophy I run with.
How sweet of Rose to read to Gilly!
Reading aloud to small people is one of the greatest joys of my life, Rose agrees!
The adventures and capers of the Quimper Hitty’s make for the most endearing read ever. They are as unique as the beloved Dr. Seuss characters and Charles Schultz “Peanuts” gang.
The QH’s individual personalities and antics accompanied with the sweet expressions on their faces, their humorous, gentle, amusing and loving natures incorporates all of what successful prized children’s book have.
I have come to love each and every one of them…and can hardly wait to see how the block twins are coming along with little crockette.
This entry with Rose reading to Gilly is beyond precious. I didn’t know about this day celebrating children’s books. I am celebrating you for bringing out the child in me and all the fun that goes with being a kid again. Thank you.
The Block Twins are scheming in another part of the cupboard at the moment, we just get so much pleasure out of doing the blog, it is multiplied by the friendly and encouraging comments – thank You!
You are a font of knowledge, whimsy and charm! Thank you for all the delights that you create and share so beautifully!
I promise, some days I just follow them around and record whatever it is they are busy doing at that moment!
Always a joy to see Gilly and Rose….seeing Gilly in Rose’s lap is precious. For all who read to the little ones
I salute you!
You may have tangible wealth untold
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold
Richer than I you can never be
I had a Mother who read to me.
oops…I forgot to give credit….above quote by S. Gillilan
Dear Sherry – what a lovely poem -thank you! I am glad I have Hittys who read to each other!
