Delights
We are in Duluth Minnesota to support a relative. My Finnish grandmother lived here as a child and I last visited here with her when I was six years old! I don’t remember much from that trip except for picking blueberries on the nearby Magdalen Islands in Wisconsin!

From Leif Erikson Park on the Duluth waterfront we could see a huge bridge. It connects Minnesota point to the rest of Duluth.

We drove over the bridge and out to the end of the point, wriggled our toes in the sand and squinted our eyes to see if we could see the Apostle and Magdalen Islands but we could not.

Up!
When we drove back towards Duluth the bridge was up! We had to wait until some pleasure boats and a tourist boat went through the canal before the road deck came back down and we could get back to the city.

Besides sight-seeing, we have also been knitting up leftover yarn…

…viewing wildlife…

…doing laundry and viewing more wildlife! We saw a skunk but didn’t get close enough to photograph it!

The Positively Third Street Bakery is near our house and in the morning you can smell fresh baking from a few blocks away…

…and we’ve been finding a few treasures for the Hittys in little shops. We’ll be home in a week or so but meanwhile it is good to feel helpful and to find some delights in Duluth.

It’s a wonderful “thing” to do in life-help others…but to have other “delights” added to the mix-well, that is super.
We felt good about being there with my relative during a stressful time. The Hittys are always supportive and cheerful, and we all appreciated the “extracurricular delights”.
it is good to see that you and the girls are doing some sightseeing after being away so many years. And, of course you are knitting scrappy yarn. Take care.
Thanks! We ended up knitting three pairs of socks and a hat, and visited a few touristy places, a wildlife sanctuary and went for nice walks along the waterfront…glad to be home now, though.
Lovely trip. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for “taking us along”!
It was nice to be there, being helpful, and really nice to know you were “there” with us too. Friends (and Hittys) make stressful times less difficult!
I am glad you are getting out and about during your visit. That bridge looks interesting and unlike most of the other ‘opening’ bridges I have seen.
We enjoyed our walks and little excursions – and that bridge was quite something! We saw it going up a few times, and heard the ships horns when the big ones went through!
Hope all is going well on your visit and awesome for you to support a family member. The photos are beautiful and love the Hittys’ dresses. Nice knitting with leftover yarn!
I was happy to be in Duluth with my relative – the times were stressful but I was glad to be able to help with some of the daily tasks and we managed to do some fun things together too. The Hittys are always encouraging and cheerful so I was glad they came too!
I hope you had a nice surprise in the mail when you returned or maybe it hasn’t arrived yet😀
It did arrive! It’s lovely, thanks so much!!
Yay!
This is so lovely. I hope you have a good visit.
Thanks very much! It is an interesting town, with industrial roots, and infrastructure, and I wondered what it was like a hundred years ago when my ancestors lived there!
