A Regency Afternoon Tea
Inspired by the recent flurry of Regency dress-sewing, three of the Quimper Hittys are having a Jane Austen Tea in their period-appropriate attire.
.
.
Zipporah admires Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. She is modest and retiring, but has captured the heart of Charles Bingley. Mrs Bennett says of Jane “I knew how it would be, I always said it must be so. I was sure you could not be so beautiful for nothing!” Zipporah’s toilette was made by a Hitty friend in Ontario, and includes the gown, a modesty-preserving chemisette, shawl, reticule, and turban. .
.
Patience is fond of Fanny Price in Mansfield Park. Fanny regards Edmund Bertram as “an example of every thing good and great, as possessing worth, which no one but herself could ever appreciate…”. She fervently hopes he will get over his unaccountable infatuation with Maria Crawford. Patience is wearing a lovely robe and Poke bonnet made by a Hitty friend in Missouri…
.
.
Constance sympathises with Anne Elliot from Persuasion. She regrets her refusal of Frederick Wentworth, and claims the unenviable privilege of “loving longest, when existence or when hope is gone”. Constance is elegant in the regency gown and fichu I recently made.
.
The girls enjoy their elegant tea party, and plan to spend many more hours reading their favourite Jane Austen novels. To see the posts about making Constance’s dress click here and here.

What wonderful dresses your girls have! All the dresses are wonderful but I especially loved all the details of Zipporah’s outfit – the dress, the bonnet, the shawl, purse, jewelry and the cameo on the wall. I just love little details like that. Diane
Thank you! I love Zipporah’s ensemble too, and it suits her really well. As the maker said, it was almost as If she had gone to Ontario for a fitting!
Those sisters are so well dressed. And lovely in every way. I hope they had period-correct tea as well!
They like Sandiland’s blend from Murchie’s little black book.
Beautiful dresses, and such a gorgeous, yet simple, setting to show them off!
Thank you, the Regency period was relatively uncluttered, and the Quimper Hittys aspire to simplicity.
Always a feast! Thanks for such beauty.
You are so welcome. I am really glad you are enjoying the Quimper Hittys.
So beautiful! I didn’t realize the dresses were so “plain” yet so pretty. I love the blue one, especially.
I am glad you like their Regency finery. I love all the dresses, and the girls are happy to have any excuse to wear them.
goodness….they are all so lovely! Your photos show them off to perfection and I do appreciate your
oh so literate commentary! A most enjoyable event for all of your followers!!
The girls are all over blushes now, but they are grateful for the compliments….
I especially love Constance’s dress.
Constance is pleased you like it! I am very fond of all their hats, and am itching to take apart Patience’s poke bonnet for a pattern!
What a wonderful affair, everyone is dressed so very nicely!
Any excuse to dress up – they are researching other Jane Austen anniversaries now…
Dresses and bonnets are simple and very pretty. There is always beauty in simplicity. The Quimper girls sure love their new outfits.
They are lucky tho have friends who can sew and get the right silhouette!
Oh my goodness… I can’t imagine how I missed this post! Anyhow, I love it, as I am a huge Jane Austen fan. Your Hitty girls all make wonderful Austen heroines! Beautiful!
Thank you so much,
They are very gratified by your kind comments, and so am I!
Beautiful dresses from the Jane Austen period. Lucky hittys.
They are lucky to have an excuse to wear their finery, and wish I would make the Regency Afternoon Tea an annual event!
What beautiful dresses. And Patience’s dress is a delight to see. So pretty and such a lovely color.
Thank you! We did enjoy ourselves with this project!
