A New Weaving Project 3
The warp is 100 ends in a 10 dent reed – so the mats will be 10 inches wide… We have two kinds of shuttle to use for rag rugs, for these little mats we’ll use the rag shuttle that Constance is holding.
We have a very nice ski shuttle, but it is too big for this project.
.
.
We started with a little bit of blue warp yarn woven at the beginning to lock the rags into place.
Two thin wooden slats are woven in as spacers between each rag mat. The exposed warps will become a short fringe at either end of the mat when we cut them apart at the end of the weaving process.
.
.
Each end is finished with a weaving hemstitch, which separates the warp fringe into bundles of four or five, and anchors the threads so no other finishing is needed.
.
.
The kilt scrap “rag” (sorry Mungo) wefts are in the middle…Looking good so far!!

This is so amazing – Constance is the most patient hitty out there !!!!
She is a great help with the loom.
Lovely!!!!
Thanks!
Constance is so talented! The Hittys and I are just in awe of this weaving. such lovely colors (apologies to Mungo).
We are having fun, and feel it is a great use for kilt scraps – much better than tossing them out!
The blue colour of the warps & wefts is exquisite!.
We like the way the warps enrich the kilt colours!
What delightful weavings! A very talented Hitty cupboard indeed.
Constance is so helpful! She loves working on the loom with me – so soothing and productive.
