Pins and Needles
Min and Mary Ann collected all the pins in the house for a special job…
Blocking the recently completed shawl used pretty much every pin in the house.
Mary Ann had some extra help from a friend better known for her spinning than her pinning abilities… the human thinks that eight legs could be very useful at times, especially during pinning-out…
Meanwhile the Quimper Hitty’s favourite photographer was busy with a different project. He assembled an appropriately named Pinhole Camera out of oddments, and took a picture of the girls getting the pins ready. Click here to see his blog post about making the camera.
Min helped to needle-weave the ends in, and then…
…what satisfaction for the human! The Quimper Hittys dutifully admired the enormous thing, but hope the human will now get her smaller knitting needles out and recommence making Hitty-sized creations.

Its a wonderful creation and so many hours of work – worth every minute.
Yes the Hittys were Very Impressed with your ability to turn a pile of leftover oddments into a camera that works! They were very happy to lend you a size 4 insect pin, and flattered to be the subject of the very first picture! Oh, and the shawl is nice too.
Ha! Now I see how you turned my comment on its head. Two interesting projects running concurrently in one household. And the Hittys helping with both – that is just like them.
Your shawl is lovely!
Thanks! We enjoyed making it, the Hittys too. It is big enough that they can all snuggle in it at once.
the shawl is lovely, it will be a joy to wrap up in. the camera is very impressive, I’m sure we will see more Hitty portraits.
We like the shawl, which was made with yarn given to me by a friend – I then gave it to my daughter, who gave it back to me for this project. The photographer takes pictures of the Hittys quite often, and we always like the pictures!
A beautiful shawl and luscious color! Great Hitty helping! Ann
We like the colour too, so soft and warm.
Your Hittys are building a reputation of helping here and there with this and that. Might they be open to hire? They bring along such joy everywhere they end up in the QH household. This is another lovely view of life there in your neck of the woods. Thanks for bringing doll pleasure/knitting pleasure/domestic pleasure to us in readership land.
Anything done with the Hittys helping is more entertaining – they infuse this house with fun!
wOW! Your new shawl is absolutely stunning!
Thank you so much – we like it too!
All the Hittys are right in admiring the human’s shawl! So many different patterns and so big! It is fantastic and amazing and gorgeous and fun!
And Warm too! Thank you very much, we are kind of glad it is finished, and that it turned out so well…and are all looking forward snuggling in it of a chilly evening!
what an informative and entertaining entry. The shawl is a work of art and so is that wonderful pin hole photo. What a project making that existing equipment into the pinhole camera. I am quite impressed with the technical ability of both of the Quimper humans!!
It can be quite an entertaining household, when our areas of interest and creativity intersect!
What an exciting time you have had with pins in all their glory! Such a beautiful shawl, and a fine camera 🙂 I love the dreamlike quality of the photo the pinhole camera made.
Pins are so useful, we love their various abilities…and we love the photo too.
Hooray! It’s beautiful!
Thank you 🙂 and thank you for all your help and encouragement!
How wonderful to see the girls take part in this beautiful project.
They truly enjoyed it, and I liked having their help!
