Comox Valley Wildberries

Sweet Wild Blackberries

Sweet Wild Blackberries

All the Quimper Hittys are fond of wildberries, and small hands were busy for hours picking them.  Outside of Linnea’s new home is a forest path which leads to secret patches of delicious berries!  After supper we went for a stroll…

Traling vines

Tatty and Dulcie spent quite a long time in the autochthonous blackberry patch…

Delicate

so did the smallest human in the family…

Blackberry Heaven

Blackberry Heaven

…they were in blackberry heaven!

Woodpecker Tree

As well as berries, wild animals abound in the woods though we didn’t see many up close. Constance and Linnea did rest in the pileated woodpecker cavities in this cedar tree…

…and further along the trail, they met a giant liquorice slug…they were glad it was not one of the 25 cm long ones!!!

…the red huckleberries were ripe everywhere…after filling our punnet (not that simple when a two-year-old is helping), we turned around and headed back to the cabin.

Linnea

On the way back we rested in Linnea’s favourite shady glade – this is Twinflower – Linnaea borealis.  Linnea feels right at home in this woods!

Everyone was happy to have berries for dessert!

    • The feral large Himalayan ones are not ripe, but the sweet little wild west coast ones are a bit earlier! I know where there is a secret patch of them right here in Victoria and ate a couple yesterday! Thank you for the congrats – it seems like an awfully big number!

  1. EIGHT hundred?! And we were patting ourselves on the back for our five hundred episodes of Ellen and Pink!
