Gráinne’s Leg Peg
While Gráinne’s leg was being carved in Oregon, it fell on the floor as the ankle peg hole was being drilled, and the blow loosened the glue holding the foot to the leg. To prevent the foot falling off at an inopportune moment, we fixed it as soon as possible after we got home.
A little more was glue added to the peg, and it was taped in place under tension. Agathe is sympathetic, the exact same thing happened to her foot, but we fixed it and she is perfectly fine!

Well, this makes Grainne and Agathe ‘Sisters of the Peg’, doesn’t it? I wonder if they are going to find even more ways in which they are kindred spirits…. 🙂
They are certainly sisters, and both their right ankles were re-pegged! Agathe claims Opal as her true block sister, though I am sure Gráinne and Agathe will have an affinity with each other as well, since they were both carved by the same knife in the same place!
I always thought the foot was carved as part of the leg from the rough blank. Glad she is mended. She is beautiful.
Some feet are carved as one in the blank, but they risk breaking off too, vertically. Theoretically they should be stronger this way once they are pegged and the glue is completely dried! I am glad you like Gráinne, thank you!
“Before the game is afoot thou still let’st slip.”
Oh yes, oh dear, the slipping and tipping that Gráinne experienced before her afoot was affixed! “All’s Well that Ends Well” though!
oh my not only are your photos clever but your followers with such funny quips are a delight! Glad that Grainne’s
mobility will be restored!
Gráinne was unfazed by the mishap, but on the whole hoped to have a regular foot and not a peg leg like HER block sister (however glorious the peg)!
