Measuring Onions
The Narcissus have finished, and their pots transferred to beneath the window ledge.
Up above, the ornamental onions are starting to emerge…
Some of them are getting quite tall – Eugenia is trying to measure, but the ruler is too short (and upside-down)
These “Walking Onions” are quite tall – some are almost half a meter!
Min’s wee indoor plants growing too!

Oh, goodness! What a lot in this one post! first, I haven’t seen anyone tie their bulbs in decades…I think I’ve forgotten that. (Happy for the nudge!) And “walking onions”? I will google that, but, oh, that sounds an All Hallows sort of “Nightmare in the Veggie Bin”. We have chives that we’ve let go, well, they took it upon themselves, truthfully, to escape into the garden. So we just enjoy them when they bloom. Thanks!
I am not exactly sure what walking onions are, except that they are for eating! When their heads get more developed, they bend over and root from the top! We like them!!
You are a fount of knowledge…. and you share it with such charm and enchantment! Thank you!
We are glad you like our mild stories, and delighted you think they are enchanting – Hitty certainly put a spell on me!
Eugenia must have a green thumb. I believe I spy a bud and the top of one stalk…just a little too high for Eugenia to see. Won’t she be happy when she sees the beautiful globed shaped flower that she carefully cultivated? Her sweet little apron with the chicken and butterflies are as precious as she is. There is nothing Hitty sized about the two kinds of flowers that Min and Eugenia are growing.
There are buds! They are about to walk!!! Eugenia is very fond of this apron, and is so happy that I gave it to her to model (and that I haven’t taken it off since!)
aha…we also have walking onions….they are “confined” to a large tub but I noticed yesterday that there were several outside the big tub….guess they walked there last fall. Glad to see the bee balm is thriving for Min.
They are interesting aren’t they? I love adventurous vegetables!
Isn’t it lovely to see new growth. We have been having green salad leaf vegetables from our garden for our dinner 🙂
