Hens and Chicks
Eugenia put on her apron, and took her her bucket to the outside pump…
…where she filled it up with cool fresh water.
She let the hens and chicks out of the coop…
…even the one in the nest box…
…and watched mama hen teach the chicks to peck and scratch for food…
…and sat for a while, keeping them company while they cheeped and peeped and clucked.

Ah, the life in the “country” with the placid souls of chickens.
Five hens maximum are allowed on our size of city lot. We do find their placid souls very calming, their needs minimal and their eggs delightful!
How dear! Are you carving the new little critters these days? So charming!
Not made by me, the hen and chicks are from Margarethe Ostheimer, who also made Dulcie’s horse friend, and the recently acquired grey wooden cat, click here for a link to her website:
Her work is enchanting!
How cute! And the nesting box is just the right size for them!!
We’ve borrowed the Chicken coop from another wooden farm set, but it is about right for these little chickies!
I half expect Gilly to come tumbling out of the coop…but that would be quite a crowd!
better not give her any ideas – I think she is quite capable of getting into doo doo in the chicken coop!
These little hens and chicks are just adorable. I love the way they are pecking away at the feed. Eugenia’s little bucket is as pretty as she it. Love this story. You come up with the best stories.
They seem to be behaving a lot like the new chicken-neighbours!
Marie Claire is enchanted by Eugenia’s apron and her flock. She immediately ran to check on her own flock. Such delightful photos and wonderful little chicks and hen! And of course the lovely Eugenia!
Eugenia is fond of her chickens – we hope for many eggs! Perhaps Hitty Marie Claire has some chickie-tips?!
