St Tiggywinkle’s Outpost
Playing outside recently, Opal and Agathe came across a lonely and bewildered wee hedgehog under the apple tree.
The girls were on the way back inside….
…when they noticed they were being followed!
They weren’t quite sure what to do with it – they’ve heard of people putting out bread and milk for hedgehogs, but they also heard it isn’t good for them.
So they checked the St Tiggywinkle’s website to see what to do with a lonely hungry hedgepig far, far away from her natural habitat (Click on their name to get to the St Tiggy’s website).
This hedgie is luckily not poorly or injured, she just doesn’t know how to fend for herself. Wild animals that have been habituated to human companionship are helpless when they are abandoned. The St Tiggy’s website suggested cat food, which fortunately the Quimper Hittys have a good supply of…

…and though the Quimper Hitty cat was very skeptical at first, it looks like they’ll be friends.

I’d have to say that the QH household is a place of refuge for a good many critters. It seems to me that the inhabitants there have big hearts.
We do seem to have a weakness for small wooden beings…This Hedgepig actually surfaced after about 30 years in a trunk…and seems much happier out and about with the other wooden inhabitants of the Hitty cupboard.
The twins attract a myriad of critters…much to my delight. Their encounters with them brings smiles for days. They are to be commended for understanding how to treat wildlife. Quimper Kitty is very generous with her food.
Kitty is surprisingly happy to share – especially generous of her to allow others a chance to experience such a fine dish!
How dear! Mrs Tiggywinkle is a lifelong favorite of mine. Has the lonely hedgehog spotted your hedgie pin cushion yet? 🙂
Not yet! Mrs Tiggywinkle is one of my favourites too. We are happy there is a hedgehog rescue society named after her.
The hedgemahog appears to be quite cheerful, but missing a few prickles. Maybe Rose could knit a hedgie-cozy before Winter sets in? Always a pleasure to see what those twins have gotten up to!
Well, yes, the wee Mahoggins was trained to dispense toothpicks, but she is a menace to the table when she does! A hedgie-cosy might be just the thing!
What a sweet little hedgehog. And how fortunate that the twins were there to rescue the little dear. Thank you for the link to the rescue…what a wonderful organization!
That sounds a very nice place doesn’t it? Little Hedgehog is glad she will be looked after this winter!
