Clay
Isn’t it amazing what people can do with lumps of clay…
.
.
…and coloured glass?!

.
Tephra’s geological name seems to have given her an affinity to clay – she was amazed and thrilled by our outing to the annual Fired Up pottery show…

Sophia Kim’s beautiful pots look like they are made of tree bark!
.
.
Beth McMillin’s were like seed pods, or shark eggs, or giant diatoms!
.
We just love Cathi Jefferson’s plant- (and crab) decorated salt glazed vessels. They are, beautiful, they feel nice, and tea definitely tastes better in one of her yunomi.

A few beautiful pots came home with us, some from the potters already mentioned and also a sea-urchinish dome by Tony Mochizuki…
.
.
…and a birthday present by Gordon Hutchens for our companion, who said this was the best piece in the show!

Thank you, Tephra, for taking us along on this hard fired journey. The outcomes are surely stunning as well as great beverage vessels.
We love this show! There were some new participants, and it is always so nice to see all the different possibilities!
Beautiful!
Truly!
We concur, although Kim’s Tree Bark is tempting as well…the birthday present is just gorgeous.
We got a tree bark mug for our middle child a couple of years ago, and couldn’t resist getting him some small items this year!
on my way today, hope there is something left for me! Had to wait for a new stove to be delivered yesterday. The “best of show” piece is wonderful..
We left some for you! I hope this coming winter will be warm (or is it a cookstove? In which case I hope for many marvelous meals to come!
gorgeous pottery…so many different shapes and glazes. I must confess a special fondness for the Tree Bark pots. but a close second would be the birthday gift and the Jefferson plant themed vessels. Tephra took us all on a very nice outing.
We love the tree bark too! Such an interesting concept to make wood out of clay!
The clay to pottery was artistic and beautiful but Tephra’s presence from wood to little being stole the show. She is so adorable that every single piece of art paled next to her.
The artists were very generous and allowed her to be photographed among their pieces – Tephra couldn’t stop smiling the whole time!
The pottery is beautiful and Tephra demonstrates everything so well. She is an amazing little hitty
She loved climbing around in the ceramics, and felt they were friends somehow.
