Writing Desk Repair 2
The Quimper Hitty human discovered a very small and lovely old writing desk in an antique store. After replacing the hinge screws, the next stage of the repair was to replace the missing pieces of moulding.
.
.
This involved measuring the original pieces…
.
.
…cutting…
.
.
…shaping with knife…
.
.
…and gouge.
.
.
The moulding was clamped…
.
.
…and wood-stain colours mixed.
.
.
We applied the stain with cotton swabs…
.
.
…then allowed the pieces to dry.
.
.
We have to be patient…there is lots of waiting in this project…next we will apply the glue!
.
.
This writing desk will be brought back to its original beauty at the hands of your expertise. It is so interesting to see how you manage this.
Thanks very much – this was quite a project. I am learning as I go along, and it’s tiny size did not make it any easier!
this is so interesting and inspiring. Waiting is hard!!!
It is hard, but the human is being very firm about leaving it alone while it dries!
