Peppercorn Day

Pepperpot

We found a spice jar in a consignment shop just in time to celebrate Peppercorn day!

.

.

Jane is trying to think of recipes requiring pepper…

The Spice Jar has a tin lid, and is from the Museum of Applied Arts in Budapest, the original is dated 1668.

    • That would be a good idea! I ended up making caraway cookies with Jane…but in Renaissance times “pepper” in several languages including English, just meant spice…so it was a good day to make spicy cookies of whatever kind!

  1. I’ve never heard of peppercorn day…it’s fun to have days to celebrate.
You find the best treasures in your consignment shop…and other stops. Love the color of the pottery and the lid…looks like pewter.

  2. That is such a nice “find”…have never seen anything quite like it. I have an antique salt cellar but nothing for
peppercorns. thanks for sharing your new spice jar with us.
