US Thanksgiving 2020

Dish

To commemorate US Thanksgiving, the Quimper Hitty household gathered together. Each of them chose a beautiful piece of beach glass, and one at a time they placed it into a beautiful dish.

.

.

Teachers

Thanks to our teachers and mentors, who help us expand our knowledge and abilities (Floradora is my most recent doll – she was carved from a branch of a tree that came from a teacher’s land).

.

.

Nature

Thanks to Mother Nature – storms, sunny days and all (Tipsy was carved from a branch of an Arbutus tree that blew off in a storm).

.

.

Fun and friendship

Thanks for friends and relations, those we have around us, and those who are absent (Arianell has a special place in her heart for those who are not at the celebration today – they are loved and missed).

.

.

Health Care

Vanilla says a grateful thank you for health care. She especially sends out her kindest and most thankful thoughts to those who are stressed and anxious today while working hard to help those who are sick. (Hitty Patience has been so busy lately, the Quimper Hittys have hardly seen her – Vanilla says let’s do all we can to make her job easier).

.

.

Food and shelter

Izzy gives thanks for food and shelter (she was adopted and welcomed, and a place was made for her at the table, no matter where she came from or what she looked like).

.

.

Kindness

Thank you for your kindness (Eugenia knows that Hittys are very small, but very small acts of kindness add up!)

.

.

Faith

Mary Ann says she knows this is a very very difficult time, but she is grateful to have faith – this too shall pass.

.

.

Music

Tuesday says, let’s sing…

.

.

Hymn to Freedom

When every heart joins every heart and together yearns for liberty
That’s when we’ll be free
When every hand joins every hand and together moulds our destiny
That’s when we’ll be free
Any hour any day, the time soon will come when we will live in dignity
That’s when we’ll be free, we will be
When everyone joins in our song and together singing harmony
That’s when we’ll be free!

Thanks to Great Canadian songwriter Oscar Peterson for this wonderful song, and Happy Thanksgiving to all our US Hitty friends!

    • I do find it intriguing, as I think you once said, that they each seem to have their own personalities…it wasn’t difficult for me to hear what they wanted to say! All the pieces of glass and ceramic have come from our nearby little pebbly beach…after a storm is a good time to find new treasures – and blue is our favourite! We don’t know where they come from, the cracked marble, the broken plate, old bottles…

  1. With a grateful heart to the Quimper Hitty Household for the cheer that they/you have given us throughout another year, despite the challenges, I thank you.

    • It has been a year of challenges, the Hittys help me remember important things like; small kindnesses add up; and this too shall pass. I am grateful that this little wooden doll somehow brought me to this community – thank You!

  2. You brought tears to my eyes with the beauty of this post, and I thank you for that! Every single one of your posts makes my heart sing, and brings joy into my life. Thank you thank you for being you, and all that you do and all that you are! ❤

    • We love to find the lovely small moments and share them – sometimes it is difficult…sometimes the difficulties go on and on, but the Hittys somehow manage to remind me of so many good things to be thankful for.

    • I am sure these thoughts are all around us, but sometimes hard to hear and hard to distill. The Quimper Hittys are lucky and I am lucky to have them around – they help me hear and articulate thoughts like these. It is a lovely thing to be able to share …thanks for listening!

    • You are very welcome, Nia. It can be so hard to see the positive sometimes, especially these days, but I know good things are still in the world, and we are all trying to make sense of it.
