July Garden 2021

Yellow Courgette

July in the garden had Floradora and Perdita examining the courgette plant – Perdita thinks they are big enough!

.

.

Cosmos Avenue

Floradora thinks the Cosmos are coming along nicely…

.

.

Tiny Lettuce

…and so are the wee lettuce plants of the second planting…

.

.

Broccoli

…and Perdita says it’s easy to get lost in the Broccoli forest!

.

.

Sweet Peas

The girls were a little sad to see the damage inflicted by the horrid heat wave earlier this week. The growing tips of all the Sweet Peas shrivelled but we think that new ones will form…

.

.

Rhododendron

…though the Rhododendrons are pretty damaged, and may have lost next year’s buds.  They were sunburned the day before the worst heat – we draped them in sheets on the hottest day – we think we’ll move the plant to a shadier spot in the fall.

Strawberried

The strawberry leaves were not happy..but the fruit was!

.

.

Breakfast

Strawberry breakfasts are the very best!

.

.

We are covered in a glorious cooling fog today, it feels wonderful!

  1. Happy to learn that you are having some respite from the horrid heat Hope the cool wave lasts and the garden recovers completely.

    • We are very happy that it cooled down a bit too – I have a brand new definition of the word hot! The Hittys liked it though, they wonder why we humans were all lying around gasping. And unfortunately the “heat dome” has moved East where it is troubling a whole new set of humans…

  2. Yes, grateful to hear that the heat has diminished. I write this as cool breezes have also come our way. It is such a blessing after heat and refreshing to mind and body.

    • The damaged plants would appreciate a nice recovery in a plant spa…I am sure the ferns and orchids would be sympathetic! If there is a next time, I will know to protect them before the heat arrives!
