More fun in Maine

Aunt Doll’s Yarn Shop

While in Castine, Constance and Mamie visited the 41st Annual Guild School of  the International Guild of Miniature Artisans  and their the wonderful Guild School Exhibit.  We were absolutely enthralled by Aunt Doll’s (absolutely wonderfully fantastic!) Yarn Shop…

The yarn shop was put together by Martha Maxwell, who also helped Great Aunt Doll by knitting the wonderful sweaters including the one that Hitty Kate is modelling.  There are some contributions from friends and relations in the shop… for example Martha’s dad made the working swift and ball-winder!

Naturally

Great Aunt Doll says of course it works! It wouldn’t be much use if it hiccuped and snagged!

Look at all the lovely squishy yarns, the carpet, the crochet basket, magazines, shawl, woven-seat shop stool and the gorgeous little shopping bag! What a wonderful shop!

Constance was overjoyed to meet Hitty Jean in person – and loved being able to pet the shop cat!

Hitty Jean invited her over for a cup of tea and a chat.

So Constance went back to the comfortable cabin, where she met some of Hitty Jean’s cousins, enjoyed the sweet flowers on the picnic table and had a good old natter about this’n’that!

    • We so enjoyed our visit with Hitty Jean, Great Aunt Doll and Hitty Kate, and then tea with the cousins too! The Yarn shop is very impressive, and full of lovely fibrey treasures…what a highlight of the trip!

    • It was just wonderful! The working swift and ball-winder were incredible engineering feats! Great Aunt Doll such a darling proprietor and that adorable cat! The humans were wishing we could shrink down and join the Hittys in a closer examination of everything!

    • It was just mind-boggling how many little wonderful details were in the little shop…every time we looked through a different angle we could see lovely little bits and pieces, all carefully in place, we really admired the whole display! Thanks to Hitty Jean who proudly showed us around, and to Martha who allowed us to photograph the shop!

  1. I am so happy you noticed the details! It makes it all worth it and puts a very big smile on my face! My father and I have really enjoyed coming up with ideas for the school exhibit every year. We have even recruited some new Hitty friends! Yippee! Aunt Doll’s knitting has been less than inspired of late. Yesterday, at the end of a round she was to have 80 stitches but alas, she had 92!
So so very nice to meet you in person after all these years!
    🥰🥰🥰

    • Oh dear about the knitting hiccups…but it does happen! Making tiny knitted things is quite a challenge, we were SO very bewitched by your entire shop and particularly the wonderful knitted sweaters! We love fibres! Thanks again, and it was wonderful to meet you and Hitty Jean! You are such an inspiration!
