  1. Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday! What a beautiful cake and the colours of the party. I loved them all. Thank you, Love, so much Love, nia

    • Thank you nia, Constance’s birthday always reminds me of my trip to Turkey when I whittled and carved and produced my first wooden doll. She was going to be called Lydia, after the ancient kingdom, but I finished her in Istanbul and so she wanted to be called after the old name for the city.

      • This is a beautiful life story, every time makes me excited. Who knows maybe one day you visit again İstanbul, I am sure you would surprise to see Today’s city. Welcome and Millon Thanks, Love, nia

  2. Happy Birthday, Constance! Your cake is so beautifully decorated and it looks scrumptious! Enjoy your seventeen year! Love, Candi

    • Thanks! Constance has been a good companion for seventeen years – the cake was absolutely scrumptious! We always used to make an edible flower-decorated poppyseed cake for my mother-in-law (she shared Constance’s birthday). It is a good time of year for edible flowers!

    • Thanks! Constance’s birthday is special for all the Quimper Hittys – she is the one who got me started on the doll-carving journey and I am so pleased at where it has taken me!

  3. How wonderful that Constance and you have been together for this length of time and we too have been grateful for her presence in our lives too. Enjoy the celebration together. Today is my beloved father’s birthday…he would have been 116 yrs old…it’s a lovely time of the year to have a birthday.

    • It certainly is a beautiful time of year to have a birthday! Constance and my mother-in-law both agreed on that, especially when the garden comes indoors, in bouquets and as the decoration on pretty cakes.

    • We were very pleased with this recipe! It was a plain Madeira Cake recipe for a 5 inch cake tin, but with poppy seeds and orange zest added – mmmmm! We are lucky in the Northern hemisphere to have all the spring flowers available for decorating!
